I‘m gonna go with mental illness for my #bookswithillness post. Too many people suffer with invisible symptoms and them deal with skepticism and shunning on top of it. 😢

“But I was beginning to learn that your life is a story told about you, not one that you tell. Of course, you pretend to be the author. You have to.”

From what I could find 18.29% of adults struggle with mental health problems annually in the US. This equals 43.7 million Americans. I know I see many patients every day with some type of mental health problem... I have family members and I have had depression myself. Be there for one another!

AmyG 18.9 percent seems low. :( 6y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @AmyG it does! And that was a 2017 stat... 6y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @AmyG we are seeing soooo much more in the er everyday 😢 6y
hgrimes I have depression and anxiety as well. I don‘t suffer from OCD like Aza, but this book has become one of my all-time favorites books because of its enormously accurate portrayal of anxiety. 6y
AmyG It‘s only getting worse. And so many more do nothing, yet probably could use help. But insurance failures or none at all. It‘s just so sad. @hgrimes I need to bump up this book. Thanks (edited) 6y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @hgrimes I thought it was very accurate also... ❤️❤️ 6y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @AmyG yes, we had several beds close and are no longer doing detox... so sad!! 6y

New reading spot today. Hubby is watching a movie with the dudes in the living room, so I've escaped up front for some book time. I keep hearing "where did Mommy go?" but have not yet been invaded. I'm really loving this one so far. The characters really take hold of your heart. I feel so much for all of them.

CouronneDhiver I‘m rereading this one right now... on chapter 7. Love it! 6y
ErikasMindfulShelf I read this one driving from Florida to NJ. Long car ride with two kids made so much better by reading this amazing book. 6y

A mysterious illness plagues the royal family and power struggles ensue. It‘s a good book but not my favorite.

Pickpick

A brilliant read that reads like a novel. Fascinating explanations of how the brain works to interpret the world.

Dolly I found this a fascinating read especially for the fact that she was an expert in this area. Even so, her knowledge was eclipsed by the stroke. 6y
TheBookgeekFrau @Dolly Her own fascination at the lack of ‘understanding‘ in her knowledge prior to the stroke is what I found most compelling (I hope I‘m remembering this correctly, it‘s been 5 or so years since I read it) 6y

Found this gem at a thrift store recently. It's the first adult book I read when I was a kid. I think I'm due for a re-read. Who knew Ebola could evoke childhood nostalgia?! 😂🤷‍♀️

amber_ldsmom I LOVED this book!!!! I read it at the suggestion of my high school biology teacher, and it‘s the cause of my paralyzing fear of Ebola. 😂 6y
CouronneDhiver It‘s a good one! 6y
Oryx This book was great! I remember being totally engrossed 6y
TheBookgeekFrau 🤣 Loved this book! 6y
