I'm sure I read all the Henry Huggins books when i was young, but I didn't remember this one at all. Poor Ribsy, lost on an adventure in the wild world. #07-2024

The memories of grade school libraries that come back as I read the Beverly Cleary novels are possibly my favourite childhood memories. I'd forgotten how much influence these books had in my life. #06-2024

Despite being a huge fan of Ramona Quimby as a kid, and reading all of the Ramona Quimby books to my own kids, today was the first time I read a Henry Huggins book. I loved it! I listened to the audiobook narrated by Neil Patrick Harris and was delighted that it had an intro read by Cleary herself. I‘m planning to read through this whole series as part of the #BacklistReadathon

TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! I remember loving the Henry books because of his dog, but don't remember much else about them! 2mo
Ruthiella I loved these too. I read them because they were available in our elementary school library and probably for no other reason. 😆 My much younger brother loved the Mouse and the Motorcycle books, which I never read. 2mo

1. Yes! I love a manual transmission and wish I could still get one in the US. We rented a car in Madrid one time, and they gave us a huge upgrade when we said we could drive a manual transmission. They were so relieved that we didn't need an automatic after all the Americans in line before us. One of the reasons I want to live in Europe, at least for a few years.

Thanks for the tag @The_Penniless_Author !

ImperfectCJ Well, my reasons for wanting to live in Europe are different (and growing as 2024 wears on), but the manual transmissions are a significant bonus to the idea. 2mo
Amiable I'm with you! My husband and I want to live in Europe for several reasons -- including 2024! 😬 We also both know how to drive a stick so that isn't a problem. 2mo
TheSpineView Thanks for playing! 2mo

I love this story and reread it every so often. It is set in the 50‘s and it‘s neat to see what has changed and what has not, even in regard to dating and love.

This was an impulse read for #wintergames: 11 pts

2. Fishing with my dad, going out onto the Ohio River at daybreak, watching the sunrise while we fished
3. Last week - when I realized my husband had finished moving the last of our things so I was done moving 🤣🤣

FlynnDewey Beverly Cleary is a staple of childhood reads. My son will definitely know some of her work when he's a bit older. 5mo

When was the last time you thought (and laughed and cringed) about the awkwardness of your first movie theater date? The first time a crush met your parents? The first time you TOTALLY miscommunicated with a crush? It doesn‘t get much more nostalgic and escapist (and — again — cringey) than memories like these, and i invite you to indulges them with me as I unpack Beverly Cleary‘s FIFTEEN on my podcast this week. 😍 listen at the link in my bio!

I so loved this book at a child. Actually I acted just like her. 🤣. I needed to read “a book published the year I was born” for a challenge (pop sugar challenge) I‘ve been doing with a friend. And this was the only one that appealed to me. I was so glad I read it again.

melissajayne @Julsmarshall it was very cool. The place I was sitting in was the library that Beverly used as a kid. 7mo
