Welcome to Litsy!

As a teen, I adored The Luckiest Girl, one of Beverly Cleary‘s “First Love” novels, but I never read the others. I decided to remedy that and picked up Fifteen this year. It was sweet! But TLG is better. 😊 (The others, perched alongside the tattered copy of my old favorite, have been purchased and are ready for me to read in 2026!)

It was between the tagged book and the first four books in The Babysitters Club that were my favourite books as a kid. Read those series more or less between grade 2 and grade 6. I read the Ramona books simply because it was the same name as my maternal grandma‘s. #sundayfunday

I don‘t remember these from my childhood, but Beverly Cleary understands kids of all ages #AuthorAMonth #BeverlyClearly

I don‘t know how I missed reading Beverly Cleary‘s teen books as a kid because I read so many of her books aimed at a younger audience. I‘m loving this!

1) I was until junior high when my family moved, and I went from a school where trying hard and doing well were cool to a school where doing those things got you targeted by bullies. So I hid out for a few years, then when we moved again in high school to another high-caliber school district, it took me a while to rebuild my skills. I still did decently through high school and college.

I have read 60 of these. I would have done better if I or my kids had been into the Moomins (so many Moomins on this list!), but I had nearly a clean sweep of the third page. Faves: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Winnie-the-Pooh (Milne only...accept no substitutes!), and From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler.

The list is missing Beverly Cleary, which is a travesty.
