This was a hard book to get through the first time I'd read it and it was still hard this second time around, because of the emotions it puts its readers through. I feel emotionally wrung out, but it it really is a great story.

Amiable Oh, this is such a good book. I don‘t even remember it being a chunkster—it was just such an absorbing read. (edited) 3mo
BarbaraBB I remember this one especially because it was so sad, there was so little light in those boys‘s lives 3mo

Agatha Raisin is on the case again, this time with ramblers who have loudly voiced opinions on right-of-ways and land ownership. Agatha continues to use her cantankerous ways to get the clues and connect the dots to find the murderer. Another fun listen! #192025 #1995

It took me while to settle in, but once I had I rattled thro‘ - simply loved being in this world with Fitz.

It felt disturbingly current in places - Chivalry stepping away from his princely role, the powers that be appearing to do nothing in the face of threats to their people. And the misting felt very close to home!

The world she built is quite wonderful - even as a not-a-great-fantasy-reader, I can see myself coming back v soon for part 2!

Cinfhen I‘m considering reading (listening) to this one for #HighFantasy 😅 1y
rockpools @Cinfhen *googles high fantasy* Works for me! I found it a surprisingly quick listen, Cindy - you could do much worse! 1y

wanderinglynn Ooh, I love Robin Hobb! 1y
rockpools @wanderinglynn I‘m so pleased! I‘d heard such great things, but was worried it‘d be a disappointing not-for-me. It wasn‘t 😁 1y
Librarybelle Hooray!! 1y
TrishB I missed your great review 😁 1y
Centique I‘m so glad you enjoyed it! 1y
Centique @Cinfhen a couple of other ideas for you if this one doesn‘t work. Naomi Novik has two stand alone novels I loved - Spinning Silver and Uprooted. But if you end up wanting something shorter, perhaps the first Dark Materials book by Phillip Pullman (in the US it‘s called Golden Compass elsewhere called Northern Lights) It‘s middle grade but it‘s a compulsive read. Lyra the main character is a brilliant kid to root for. 1y
Cinfhen Thanks for the suggestions @Centique FANTASY is so NOT my JAM - I need all the help I can get 1y

So much darkness in this book, but Leon has a way of turning phrases that are almost poetic. The casual dark and snarky humor thrown in helps to slightly lighten the subject matter. Brunetti is very methodical - he tends to build character studies of suspects and witnesses, and the reader gets to hear his thoughts thanks to Leon‘s writing. My appreciation for this series is growing. I can see why so many love this series! #19822022 #1995

ferskner Gosh this series is good. I will get back to it someday! 1y
Librarybelle @ferskner I‘m slowly gaining appreciation for it. Such a change in writing style from Louise Penny, which my book group read before this series. I love the snarky humor! 1y

There may come a time when this book doesn't make me cry but I doubt it, published in #1995 and tears upon every reread. This is a story of love and loss and appreciation of the small things that make life wonderful. It's beautiful and sad - and as the cover promises, a classic story for young and old

GatheringBooks definitely one of my absolute faves 7y
