Light and predictable but nevertheless an enjoyable read.
Gail is having a bad day - informed that the principal at her school is retiring and not only is she being overlooked for promotion but the new principal is bringing her own VP. So she is already on edge before attending the festivities for her slightly estranged daughter, Debbie‘s, wedding.
The awkwardness and anxiety was certainly relatable.

Reading an Anne Tyler novel is like putting on a favorite cardigan. I loved this novel. 3.5 🌟.

What a short lil wonderful hug of a story. Just nice, nothing too shocking, the ebbs and flows of a human life, messy lived and messy reflected upon, and uncertain going forward. Take a chance on love 💕 (admit and forgive mistakes)

Gerri from Succession reading to me is the treat I hadn‘t known I needed.

This reminded me of Eleanor Oliphant and I loved it. Predictable, yes, but still lovely.

I think I have read all or nearly all of Anne Tyler's novels and this one wasn't for me. The protagonist was portrayed as quirky, but I found her annoying. The other characters other than Max were not well developed and I thought the ending was just too predictable.

I loved reading this new Copyright message and seeing how more publishers are supporting their authors and taking a stand against racism and AI. Yaass!!! 🙌🏻💪🏻🙌🏻

What I love about Anne Tyler is how she introduces me to a handful of quirky characters who I can relate to, lets me chuckle, cringe, cry and connect with them during a slice of their ordinary lives, and helps me understand a little more about myself and the quirky people in my own life through their journey. And in this book, she does it all in under 200 pages! Brilliant, engaging and another winner for me! 🙌🏻🥇

A slim novel, set around family wedding and the emotions and relationships that come into play.
Not her best but I still devoured it!
She's careful in her descriptions, only uses necessary detail yet we form an impression easily of person and place.

A sweet story of forgiveness and letting go of perfection. I really enjoyed this.

What could be a saccharine tale in the hands of another author turned into a character study full of wit and quiet wisdom from the pen of Anne Tyler. The premise doesn‘t appeal to me: divorced parents are forced together during three days in June for the wedding of their daughter. But I loved it! Tyler has a way of elevating the mundane into meaningful and potent observations of human nature. I need to read the backlist. Also recommend: duck lamp!

Today is a federal holiday, so I‘m taking the day to rest and read. Here‘s the short stack, plus listening to Sarah Moss‘s memoir “My Good Bright Wolf”.
Banana oatmeal cookies are baking in the oven, there‘s snow outside, the coffee is strong, and the fire is burning.

A Spool of Blue Thread made me a fan. Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant was brilliant. So when Anne Tyler publishes a new book, I read it! Hopefully I‘ll get started this weekend.

This was an ARC about a wedding that spanned over three days. The book was enjoyable, but I found that the character development and storyline could have been more detailed and developed. The book left me with a feeling of wanting more in the way of a deeper storyline.

This is a slim read, and a bit boring.

Tyler is all about telling not showing, and telling second by second. Our MC Gail is very dull, you learn about her own marriage as she is attending her daughter's wedding, secrets abound but none of them are captivating and all of the resolutions feel both inevitable and lackluster.
I think this is for people who like a slice of life and love the 90s writing style 3/5
