Pandemic | Scott Sigler
20 posts | 8 read | 9 to read
"Scott Sigler's "Infected" shocked readers with a visceral, up-close account of physical metamorphosis and one man's desperate fight for sanity and survival, as "Scary" Perry Dawsey suffered the impact of an alien pathogen's early attempts at mass extinction. In the sequel "Contagious," Sigler pulled back the camera and let the reader experience the frantic national response to this growing cataclysm."" And now in "Pandemic," the entire human race balances on the razor's edge of annihilation, beset by an enemy that turns our own bodies against us, that changes normal people into psychopaths or transforms them into nightmares. " To some, Doctor Margaret Montoya is a hero--a brilliant scientist who saved the human race from an alien intelligence determined to exterminate all of humanity. To others, she's a monster--a mass murderer single-handedly responsible for the worst atrocity ever to take place on American soil. All Margaret knows is that she's broken. The blood of a million deaths is on her hands. Guilt and nightmares have turned her into a shut-in, too mired in self-hatred even to salvage her marriage, let alone be the warrior she once was. But she is about to be called into action again. Because before the murderous intelligence was destroyed, it launched one last payload -- a soda can-sized container filled with deadly microorganisms that make humans feed upon their own kind. That harmless-looking container has languished a thousand feet below the surface of Lake Michigan, undisturbed and impotent . . . until now. Part Cthulhu epic, part zombie apocalypse and part blockbuster alien-invasion tale, "Pandemic" completes the Infected""trilogy and sets a new high-water mark in the world of horror fiction.

Part 3

I wrote this for the pandemic and wanted to share.

Also feel free to follow me, my cats, cooking adventures and journey to write my first novel on Instagram at kduck1985 - I copied this from there because it was too big to just post!

Please let me know your thoughts and also what words YOU would use to describe the pandemic.

Be sure to read Parts 1 and 2!

If you took the time to read all three thank you SO much.

PurpleTulipGirl Beautifully written! This virus is cruel and capricious and not to be easily dismissed. But it‘s also an opportunity. We‘ve seen so much innovation and creativity. We need to not allow it to irreparably tear us apart. We can‘t let the virus or our fears win like that. 4y

I‘ve been finding novels about pandemics weirdly comforting lately. Two I recommend.

Just home from my first adventure outside after 57 days.
Everything is so strange.
Everybody wear a mask. We have to wait for our turn outside shops. So few cars on the streets.

But l appreciate the silence. I really do, surprisingly.

julesG It's strange, isn't it? Germany is slowly lifting the restrictions, federal state by federal state. ? People are wearing masks in shops and public transport. I enjoyed all the "Sundays" - little to no traffic, all quiet. 4y

Still working on my current read, but I‘m looking for suggestions of any other good, light reads Littens might be able suggest moving forward. You know, books I can cut to the front of the line, so to speak. P.S bonus points if you actually READ this post. 😉

ljuliel This is on sale today for Kindle. 2.99. It‘s very good. Doesn‘t take much brain power and it‘s a cute story. 4y

Be encouraged, fellow Littens! This is from the mom of one of my students in China. They have been under quarantine for about two months. Things are looking up for them! There is hope for us too! The quarantines won‘t last forever. ❤️🥰

When the going gets tough even public employees can work at home a bit. I feel busier here than I do in my office, may rethink this😂

JenReadsAlot Oh man I didnt know you were doing that?! 4y
peaKnit @JenReadsAlot it‘s just going to be a couple of times a week, we are rotating a bit. This was my first day. I think I worked harder at home, who knew?!😳 4y

These are crazy times we're living in. I'm still getting in the groove of working from home and the stress is definitely starting to peak which makes it hard to be productive. I really just need to find more time for reading - that may just be the thing to help keep the panic at bay 😭

Christine Yes! Sending love and good wishes your way. I somehow haven‘t found the space to make room for reading again yet but I really need to do so. ❤️ 4y

My #quarantinereads stack (not counting my panic-induced plethora of library ebooks on my kindle)! Trying to have a good attitude about being mostly stuck at home for the future. @maximoffs and I shared some of our favorite escapist reads on the Checking Out Podcast, which you can listen to on Anchor, Spotify, Google Podcasts, Apple Podcasts, and most platforms. Post a picture and give me a tag! Let‘s make the best of a scary situation.

Reposting for @CBee ❤️📚 What a great idea. We are all feeling “all the feelings” about this pandemic. But we Littens can be a source of comfort to each other. So post & share anything you want about how you feel, how this has effected you, what your plans are, etc. Use the hashtag #allinthistogether 💗

All this panic buying had me totally stressed out so I braved the world and stocked up on my essentials. No bog roll, pasta or rice but I am set! With my Litsy family and these beauties I don‘t need to leave the house.

MicheleinPhilly What is bog roll? 🤔 4y
MicheleinPhilly Oh, never mind! TP! Duh, Michele. 🤦🏻‍♀️ 4y

Jhullie @Lizpixie these two start with Partners in Crime and The Clocks. I bought them to replace the ones my puppy chewed the spines off of. I have all of them. 4y

1. Well, my university closed so we won‘t have class again until March 23 (all online) and they‘re going to reassess by April 6. Until then, I‘m out of all 3 of my jobs, both of my favorite classes are impossible, and a bunch of my friends can‘t graduate.
2. My parents don‘t, but I‘m bringing a bunch back from school!
3. I did, but they‘re cancelled now.
4. Final Girls by Riley Sager
5. How about a podcast? Spooked is freakin‘ fantastic, go listen

Oh goodness, seems like we are prepping for a little societal shut down here. I think that I might be seeing more of these faces if the rumours about an imminent school closure are true. Think of the reading, the glorious reading.
