Easy to read but well written novel set in the world of ballet. Carlisle is the daughter of two ballet professionals and aspires to be a dancer but is prevented by her height. The focus is, however, family and betrayal. The protagonist is frustratingly selfish and dishonest but I am not sure her actions or any action of a child warranted such a long estrangement.

pickI had to think long and hard about how I felt about this book. Objectively yes it was good and I feel like it was written pretty well. I think what gets me is that I liked and related to the narrator and then I found out that she lacked serious morals and was the problem in such a weird way. Anyways I‘m left feeling unsatisfied and like this book was forgettable but maybe that‘s just me. I recommend it bc it‘s still good tho.

pick2-25-23: My 24th finished book of 2023! I loved this one! Carlisle, a ballet dancer from a family of ballet dancers, it too tall to make it even though she has a beautiful facility about her. Set in 2016 but reverting back to the 80s and the AIDS crisis time period, Carlisle will spend her summers with her father and his partner James at the Banks Street apartment in NYC. When James asks Carlisle for a huge favor it will backfire ⬇️
pickThis is a book that exceeded my expectations.. a book about family and a coming-of-age story in one. Ballet plays a central part in the story and the bond in the family. There is a betrayal and it made a compelling read to find out the cause/ what happened as the story switches back and forward in time. It is set during the AIDs crisis but very much a backdrop in the story. A beautiful character- driven novel with wonderful writing. #readinglife
pickI found this to be a solid story about family, dreams and dance and how it doesn‘t always jive the way we‘d like it. This is a strong read but I did find fault with the end but that‘s just me perhaps #balletthemedreads challenge.
pickCarlisle wanted to follow in her mother‘s pointe shoes and be a professional ballerina, but she‘s far too tall. She does find her way in the dancing world but only after a blowup with the father that finds them estranged for almost 20 years. Overall, I really enjoyed this exploration of family, though when the blowup is finally revealed, I thought it could have been done a bit better, as I was a little unconvinced.
Welp, we are having a true blizzard. But we have plenty of food (if the power goes out we will have to eat cookies) and I have plenty to read including the tagged book which I‘m really enjoying. Hope everyone is safe and warm!
pickA story about family, friendship, love, betrayal and ballet. Beautifully constructed and elegantly written. I loved it. If I'd read this before the #AuldLangSpine deadline it definitely would have been on my list. In my top 10 for the year.
