The Good Left Undone | 
pick5 books read by Adriana Trigiani this year for me and I think this is my favorite. Her books are like fine wine between my other readings. Set in Italy, a grandmother tells her unknown life journey to her granddaughter. Scotland, WW2 Europe, lost lives. Excellent read. This is storytelling! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
pickThis may have sat with my unread #BOTM books for much longer if not for #Bookspin and #Booked2023. 3 generations of strong Italian women. I don‘t usually like WW2 novels but this took me to France, Scotland, and Italy so I couldn‘t resist. I also learned another side of the atrocities of WW2 from the Italian perspective. I still think about the Cabrelli women.
so-soI enjoyed this book, but I felt it was really slow getting started. I also didn‘t expect for it to trigger thoughts of my own end of life. I enjoy the sense of community and family. I felt like the author truly understands what it means to be part of a family.
pickThis is one of the first historical fiction books that I‘ve read from Italys perspective. Being of Italian decent, I found it exceptionally interesting, and hope to plan a trip to Tuscany at some point in the future. This books main theme is family. It goes back and forth between 3 generations of woman. It‘s only downfall is that it became confusing at times remembering which family member belonged to who. I really enjoyed this book.
pickThis is a solid novel set during World War II and today. It follows 3 generations of women in an Italian family. Trigiani builds character connections, historical references, and family relationships. I loved Matelda, who is from the middle generation. Her memories teach the younger generations about her early life and her mother's experiences. We should all ask our grandparents about their youth before it's too late! #thebibliophage2022
so-soThis was a hard book to get invested in. I really liked the stories from the gma from when she was younger. Reading about the Italian POWs in WWI was so sad. It is a good book, about 3 stars for me.
pickThis was a light pick. It was enjoyable enough, but went on a bit too long for my tastes.
pickThe setting and timeline here fascinated me - Italy, France, and Scotland over 4 generations, and I enjoyed how it was told. To google I went to read about the sinking of the Arandora Star (quick but meaningful mention in the book) - fascinating and so sad.
so-soPretty good. A bit slow, but I love a multigenerational story! This is my first of this author. Is there a different one I should read? I'd like to spend more time in Italy!!
so-soI adore other books by the author and I‘m a fan of her descriptive writing style. She excels in setting a scene and describing artisanal work. As in Shoemaker‘s Daughter, she weaves details of a craft into her story—this time it is gem-cutting for jewelry. I love it! This book spans 3 generations of strong Italian women, and that is part of my problem, it jumps around from generation to generation and feels disjointed at times.
I haven‘t read her newest book, but I love this quote of hers on the Friends & Fiction podcast.

Today was a difficult day. My students (I teach at the college-level. I say that bc I *feel* for those of you teaching in K-12) are struggling. On days like today, I‘m grateful for the turn in weather in Wisconsin (fleeting - it could snow tomorrow!), so I can apply a balm to the soul with a cheese board, a cocktail, a book, and a fire. My #botm selections. I was already planning to read The Good Left Undone, but the other two were not on my radar. The cover of Kaikeyi is gorgeous!
Not my favorite month, but my Aunt is a huge Trigiani fan so I was happy to "share the wealth" and snag this up for her ? Kaikeyi has gotten great reviews but retellings are a hit-or-miss for me, so I think I'll hold off for now.
Seems like alot of people weren't too thrilled with the selections, but I know Spring can be a slower publishing season when it comes to new releases! #botm
