The Mother Next Door
The Mother Next Door: A Novel of Suspense | Tara Laskowski
16 posts | 7 read | 6 to read
GOOD MOTHERS... Never show their feelings. Never spill their secrets. Never admit to murder. The annual Halloween block party is the pinnacle of the year on idyllic suburban cul-de-sac Ivy Woods Drive. An influential group of neighborhood moms--known as the Ivy Five--plans the event for months. Except the Ivy Five has been four for a long time. When a new mother moves to town, eager to fit in, the moms see it as an opportunity to make the group whole again. This year's block party should be the best yet... until the women start receiving anonymous messages threatening to expose the quiet neighborhood's dark past--and the lengths they've gone to hide it. As secrets seep out and the threats intensify, the Ivy Five must sort the loyal from the disloyal, the good from the bad. They'll do anything to protect their families. But when a twisted plot is revealed, with dangerous consequences, their steady foundation begins to crumble, leaving only one certainty: after this year's block party, Ivy Woods Drive will never be the same. From award-winning author Tara Laskowski, The Mother Next Door is an atmospheric novel of suspense in which the strive for perfection ends in murder...

Book read during 2nd week of October.
It was okay but not great with maybe a “controversial” end. A distinguished neighborhood with not so distinguished parents, specially those terrible mothers of Ivy five. One of them made a drastic, deadly decision in the past just to support the group. Who? I liked the way it was narrated, counting down the days of October until Halloween, where that terrible secret will be revealed.3⭐️ Predicted? Maybe..

This one is all about Halloween, but some library holds you just take when you can get 😉! I wasn‘t sure I was going to love it at first, but once I got further into it, I thought it was clever. Lots of great twists too.

If "The Hunting Wives" is a tenth as good as this book I would not have panned it so badly! The mean girl vibe is real on this cul-de-sac and I am loving it! Surprisingly, I did not hate the members of the Ivy Five. Laskowski does a fine job of making them relatable women who have their own insecurities and flaws. Also, the suspense element is on point and I was quite surprised by what the Ivy 5 had been covering for 13 years. SINISTER! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Made some shawarma and Orozco soup in preparation for tomorrow's rain. Current read: "The Mother Next Door". Definitely worth the long library wait. ?

I enjoyed this book very much. It's not a thriller but is full of drama and mystery. You get to know five women and several secrets. Some secrets are very bad.
It's well written and I do recommend it.
I gave it 4/5 stars.

HAPPY PUB DAY!!

Theresa is new to the exclusive cul-de-sac Ivy Woods Drive and wants to fit in.

The Ivy Five moms welcome her since one of their five has been gone for a long time. If they allow her in, they will be back to five instead of four.

The book flowed well, but there was too much drama in it for me even though the theme seemed to be that you never know who to trust. 3/5

Halloween Square : Genre : suspense
Square read/ not called
Book : The Mother Next Door
Becca's Bookoplathon
First roll: 5
Prompt: people
the atmosphere , the feeling of been watched, the unknown messenger who kept sending messages as well as their parts of the story just gives it that perfect fall vibe .Plus with how suspenseful, sinister and a bit twisted , as well as just the right amount of spookiness to it , it wouldn't let you down.
