Book of Cold Cases
Book of Cold Cases | Simone St James
A true crime blogger gets more than she bargained for while interviewing the woman acquitted of two cold case slayings in this chilling new novel from the New York Times bestselling author of The Sun Down Motel. In 1977, Claire Lake, Oregon, was shaken by the Lady Killer Murders: Two men, seemingly randomly, were murdered with the same gun, with strange notes left behind. Beth Greer was the perfect suspect--a rich, eccentric twenty-three-year-old woman, seen fleeing one of the crimes. But she was acquitted, and she retreated to the isolation of her mansion. Oregon, 2017. Shea Collins is a receptionist, but by night, she runs a true crime website, the Book of Cold Cases--a passion fueled by the attempted abduction she escaped as a child. When she meets Beth by chance, Shea asks her for an interview. To Shea's surprise, Beth says yes. They meet regularly at Beth's mansion, though Shea is never comfortable there. Items move when she's not looking, and she could swear she's seen a girl outside the window. The allure of learning the truth about the case from the smart, charming Beth is too much to resist, but even as they grow closer, Shea senses something isn't right. Is she making friends with a manipulative murderer, or are there other dangers lurking in the darkness of the Greer house?

New author for me. Absolutely loved this one. Creepy, scary and a bit out of my comfort zone, but worth the chills! A part time true crime blogger spots a woman acquitted of 2 unsolved murders in her hometown. She gets more than she bargained for when she decides to try interview the woman.
Recommend as an audioread.
I will definitely try another by this author!

First book I thought of - the mood is skillfully created with dark, spooky nights, wind and torrents of rain battering the cliffs above the sea—will give you duck bumps😱

Ghost story and solve a crime? A must-read for me and so far my favorite by the author. Shea Collins runs a website for unsolved crimes (named The Book of Cold Cases) and one day runs into Beth Greer, who was acquitted of murder in the 1970s of 2 men. Shea asks for and interview and Beth agrees. Is Beth Greer really a murder? And what is really going on in Beth‘s mansion?

So, I‘ve long been fascinated with the incredible popularity of true crime, especially among women. This book hints at one possible why, as its protagonist uses her cold case obsession to distance/distract herself from personal past traumas while taking on a position of potential power as the investigator. I‘m excited to chat about it all at my book club (many members of which are BIG true crime fans) tomorrow.

SamAnne 🤔. Interesting theory. 1y

Book definitely pulled you in and refused to let go. Just like Shea uncovering the truth of The Lady Killer. Lots of suspense and twists. Finding clues, but not too much drama I‘d say. Until the second act paranormal starts bugging out. Long book takes all this well. Didn‘t really leave too much of an impression on me, besides the few really creepy parts.

Alright, so I‘m intrigued. Was not expecting to be. It‘s thundering out, just like how in this town it is always raining. Got a my cup of tea going strong. Glad Shea is telling it like she hears it here, being well versed in crime notes methodology. Although I‘m not sure how much I trust a self proclaimed blogger.

I don‘t really care for cold cases, so we‘ll see how this story goes. Although, I can see why other people are raving about it. People today seem obsessed with solving cold cases on their own.
A truer crime blogger gets more then expected when interviews someone acquired of two cold cases. As these women get closer, there‘s an eerie feeling about the mansion the acquitted lives. Is the allure of learning the truth too great to pass up?

#bookhaul from last weekend 📚I've been in a spooky mood lately and it's reflected in this stack 😂👻 Have you read any of these? #booklover #booknerd #halfpricedbooks

TheNeverendingTBR Night Shift is sooo good! 2y
SeaToSkyes @TheNeverendingTBR by Stephen King? I think that's on my TBR 2y
TheNeverendingTBR @SeaToSkyes I don't why I thought your copy of The Shining was Night Shift, I think I need an eye test! 😂🥸 2y
bthegood I've read both King books- the Shining is the better of the two (IMO) - 8 perfect murders is good and I have St. James book on TBR (other book I am not familiar with) - it looks like a great book haul! 🙂 2y
SeaToSkyes @bthegood thank you! I've been wanting to read more King and I've never seen The Shining film. Simone St. James has become one of my favorite authors; I love her blend of murder mystery and ghost story! Also her use of dual timelines is great. 2y

EadieB It has great character development and is very hard to put down. It is suspenseful with interesting plot twists that keep the pages turning until the very end. The story is told with Shea and Beth's POV in different timelines. I always look forward to the next Simone St. James release as I know it will be a creepy ghost story with mystery and this one did not disappoint. 2y
