A weird title to read in public, even weirder if your family reads the title.
I Iove me a slightly psychopathic protagonist, and it definitely has that. Simple language, page turner (I was gliding through them), decent plot, overall a super fun read.
It has some great twists, especially the biggest one towards the end. A bit disappointed by the ending though. I still have to make my mind about it, if it was utterly brilliant or silly.
4/5🌟

This was a mixed bag for me. I loved the premise (I‘m a sucker for a good old fashioned revenge plot) and the writing was refreshing and so funny at times. But other times it was long winded and dragged?! Not sure about the ending either…! Bit disappointing.

julesG Perfect book to casually leave on a side table. 😈 12mo
Caroline2 @julesG Ha!! Defo! 😆 12mo
jamield1911 Oh, I loved this one! It's definitely my sense of humour 🤣 I also really enjoyed leaving it on the coffee table or in the car when my other half annoyed me 😆 12mo
BookNAround I gave this to my sister for Christmas (after pre-reading it, of course). I told her not to get any ideas. 12mo

LOVED IT! LOVED IT! LOVED IT! 🤩
Grace is the Anti-Hero I didn't know I needed in my life. Her wit, sarcasm and general disdain towards the human race make this book laugh out loud funny. It is equally as dark and gritty, as it is amusing and fun.
I cannot wait to read Bella Mackie in the future, and I am hoping to see this made into a series in the future.
100% recommend. Best book I've read this year. 👌👏

Would it be bad to give this to someone in my family? What if I said it was only a slight threat? 😂 Pretty sure this is going to be one of my sister‘s presents.

swishandflick I would find this a hysterical gift 😂 1y

Excellent until the ending which made me angry

How to Kill Your Family, is a light, fun take on the crime genre. It‘s central character Grace manages to be strangely endearing, while also being a murderous psychopath. A little unevenly paced at times, nonetheless I was captured but the unravelling of the murders that were foreshadowed in the novel‘s title and opening. I liked this a lot.

TheLibrarian This pictures makes it seem like your cat was reading this book, which the title fits perfectly for a cat 😂 2y

#bookspin for Sept… I was a little disappointed in this one. Some funny elements, but I didn‘t like the twist, and the MC didn‘t really have any redeeming qualities, so just didn‘t quite feel balanced.

TheAromaofBooks At least it's off the list!! 2y

Not knowing what to expect, this was a fun surprise. It wasn‘t as dark as I expected, the main character was fun to follow and it got a bit twisty too.

Thank you so much @Yuki_Onna for my awesome #sliceofsummerswap box! I'm so excited about the books and all the amazing German chocolate! And thank you for being my first international swapper 💝 I hope you're feeling better!

Yuki_Onna Jenna - so happy you like your box! Just to be clever-clever - the chocolate is NOT German - Lindt is Swiss and Manner is Austrian/Viennese to be exact. 🤪Not that I care - but the lovely Austrians and Swiss people would surely object to have their chocolate called 'German'... 😏 2y
Yuki_Onna And jep - as of today I'm Covid-negative!✌️Still feeling a bit weak and tired - but very much better. Thank you so much for caring!😊 2y

My family were quite perturbed seeing this one lying around! I‘ve had a disjointed couple of weeks reading due to the distraction of a new job; this one fit the bill perfectly. Easy to pick up, amusingly snarky and with a nice little twist.

Holiday read ☀️ Outrageous, dark and witty. Really loved this and for a serial killer grace is totally relatable! Bit of a frustrating ending but I hope that means there‘ll be another.. #pick #holiday

This one started off great and stayed that way for the first 3/4 of the story. Super funny and great characters. Absolutely detested the ending, poor, could have ended so much better. Definitely recommend but almost with the caveat that you stop reading at page 311. Disappointing

Loved this book! It‘s incredibly funny and dark. The author does not hold back or soften her protagonist who is absolutely a serial killer - and proud of it!

It is definitely a bit bonkers but I really enjoyed it overall and found the ending satisfying. Although there was one aspect that I would have liked to have played out differently it didn‘t ruin the book for me.

truthinfiction Hey, which aspect would you have liked to play out differently? 2y
truthinfiction I read the book around the same time as you and the ending led me down indescribably. What are your thoughts on it? Would you care to elaborate? 2y
Marialou @truthinfiction I would have liked her to be victorious, felt the reveal of the family member who outwits her wasn‘t right. 2y

truthinfiction Oh my God! Same!!! It depressed me to no end. I had such a hard time coming to terms to that aspect only. Also, the fact that he's a privileged white male who had no trouble reaping the fruits of a woman's toils. It destroyed me. You also might wanna mark your comment as spoiler so that nobody accidentally reads it. You have to mark the danger sign next to the the send button. 2y
Marialou @truthinfiction exactly! I loved her and thought the portrayal of her was pretty fearless - no pulling back on her monstrous aspects - and then along comes this dude who outwits her?! I get why the author did it and it‘s obviously set up for her to get her own back but I didn‘t love it. I wanted her to be triumphant completely - not just partly, as an afterthought 2y
Marialou @truthinfiction thanks for the spoiler tip! 2y

Its a good concept and when Grace is in action it is entertaining. If the writer had trusted her audience (who lets face it bought a book called How to Kill your Family) and just went all out with murdering and wrote an entertaining novella this could have been solid. But no she must also try for social satire and satire is hard and it just comes across as ranting. Then a character comes from nowhere in the last third 😡.
Good start, bad ending.
