Five killers find themselves on a bullet train from Tokyo competing for a suitcase full of money. Who will make it to the last station? An original and propulsive thriller from a Japanese bestseller. Satoshi looks like an innocent schoolboy but he is really a viciously cunning psychopath. Kimura's young son is in a coma thanks to him, and Kimura has tracked him onto the bullet train heading from Tokyo to Morioka to exact his revenge. But Kimura soon discovers that they are not the only dangerous passengers onboard. Nanao, the self-proclaimed 'unluckiest assassin in the world', and the deadly partnership of Tangerine and Lemon are also travelling to Morioka. A suitcase full of money leads others to show their hands. Why are they all on the same train, and who will get off alive at the last station? A bestseller in Japan, Bullet Train is an original and propulsive thriller which fizzes with an incredible energy as its complex net of double-crosses and twists unwinds to the last station.

I found the movie on Netflix and decided to play it on whim, and it ended up becoming my new favorite movie. I was excited to find out it was a book and quickly bought a copy. The book is very different from the movie, such as The Prince is far darker and more unlikeable. However, I appreciate both as separate medias. I loved Lemon and Tangerine just as much as I did in the movie. Looking forward to trying out more of Isaka‘s work! 4 🌟‘s

Lunakay There is a prequel! :) Not as original as bullet train, but still a very good thriller/mystery 1mo
RosePressedPages @Lunakay I‘m very excited to give Three Assassins a try! Thank you! 1mo
Jari-chan I've had the very same experience. The Prince in the book is so much creepier... I'm planning to read Three Assassins in April/May. 1mo
RosePressedPages @Jari-chan I just picked up my copy from Barnes and Noble! 1mo

Guilty of seeing (and loving) the movie first. But they differ in many ways, so I still could enjoy this book for its own sake. Isaka comes up with a very creepy character, who is even more spooky in the book. Loved the background stories the movie couldn't provide. I also think it's interesting that you're rooting for murderers here, you start to like them, even though they all are antagonists. Well put by the author.

RamsFan1963 I saw the movie on a plane on my way to Chicago. I like it, one of the few Brad Pitt movies I've liked. 3mo
Jari-chan @RamsFan1963 Spoiler: the book is Pitt free 😉😆 glad you liked the movie, though 😊 3mo
The_Book_Ninja One of the best films I saw last year 3mo

I enjoyed the heck out of this book! I only had a minor quibble about how much time Isaka spends inside The Prince‘s mind, to the point where I felt it took me out of the story. The ending was a bit anti-climactic as well, but otherwise I loved the very unique characters and the unique setting.

RamsFan1963 I watched the movie version of this, with Brad Pitt, while stuck on a 14 hr flight to Tokyo. I enjoyed it for the non stop action, although the plot made little sense. 7mo
AlaMich @RamsFan1963 The plot was definitely bonkers AF. But I did love Thomas the Tank Engine. 😂 7mo

Probably one of the last few reasonably warm mornings to sit out on the patio with some cold brew and my book.

I don‘t read many thrillers because they tend to feel very samey to me, but this book sucked me right in. The translation is marvelous, the characters are a bit bonkers, and I can‘t wait to see where it‘s all going.

I‘m also listening to the audio version, read by a very good narrator.

AlaMich @Ruthiella I haven‘t gotten really into a book as quickly as this one for a long time. 7mo

The strangest set of contract killers get on a train. They then proceeded to intersect with one another in a very deadly fashion. Sounds simple but this storyline was not. I loved the unexpected overlaps and the utter ridiculousness that is Nanao‘s constant misfortune. I now know way too many random facts about Thomas the Train and his friends.

I really hope the movie does this book justice. If you‘re looking for an action packed read, pick this.

5feet.of.fury I was thinking of watching the movie today! The previews looked fun 1y
Lunakay I thought both were fun, but the book is way better (as usual :D)! The movie got too Hollywood for me in the end, but still great fun and totally worth watching. Brad Pitt as Nanao was great, enjoy!😄 I would be very interested in your thoughts after watching!😊 1y

Chaotic fun with a bunch of killers on Japan‘s bullet train; pure entertainment. Made into a Japanese movie and now a US version (see poster.) Enjoy the ride!

I had to postpone my trip on Bullet Train but now my journey is finished. What a ride! Very cinematic and violent with plot twists and turns. Five(?) assassins are aboard the high speed train between Tokyo and Morioka. All have conflicting assignments from the Japanese underworld. Not all are necessarily who they appear to be. Who will make it off alive?

Ruthiella @Cinfhen It reminded me some of a Tarantino movie. Flippantly violent. 2y

I really enjoyed this book. Was sold immediately on the premise, loved the setting, and was tickled pink by Lemon‘s obsession with Thomas the Tank Engine 😂

Really? Brad Pitt as the lead character in this movie? How dull.

Darkly humorous take on thriller. What happens when you lock a bunch of ki;let's for hirer and the unluckiest bag man on a train? Chaos, chaos happens.

It's a fun cast of characters with lots of banter, except for the teen psychopath, his perspective is kind of dull with typical musings. Takes a while for the chaotic energy to culminate into the kind of adrenaline pumping action of a thriller but really the ride itself is more interesting.

BookwormM I loved this one 3y

This is the story of 5 assassins on Japan's high speed “bullet train.“ This isn't the fastest of thrillers, but there are enough reversals & twists to speed the plot along nicely. Each of the assassins is working a job on the train. What they come to find out is that perhaps their jobs are connected in ways they did not expect. It's a light read and I enjoyed it, even if it wasn't my favorite book ever!

DrexEdit I understand that there is already a movie being made from this book. If so I picture it to be something along the lines of Silver Streak, only perhaps a bit more sinister--a light action-comedy-thriller. 👍 3y
