Listening to the audiobook through Libby. The narrator seems to be modulating his voice for a much younger audience (which absolutely makes sense) but it's taking me out of the story a little - all the dialogue is spoken in b the same cheerful tone, even when the author describes it as pensive or sad or angry.

I'm enjoying it though! I think Riordan has done a great job of making you empathize with the characters.

Super excited to see this announcement on Rick Riordan‘s Instagram. Love these books and the movies were so disappointing—I was thrilled when Riordan announced he was doing a series for Disney+ and love that we are starting to get casting announcements. Loved Walker Scobell in The Adam Project and I think he‘ll be great as Percy Jackson. Filming starts this summer! Can. Not. Wait.

ravenlee I remember seeing The Lightning Thief with a fellow bookseller, and at the end we just kind of sat there and stared at the screen. We were afraid to look at one another, in case the other had actually liked that mess of a movie! After one or two similar experiences we stopped going to movies together. They were all too bad! 6mo

Just finished rereading the first Percy Jackson book! I first read this when I was in 6th or 7th grade, and now I‘m going to read it with my 6th graders for our Ancient Greece unit! It was pretty good and there were a lot of cheesy jokes for the adults that went over my head when I was a kid, lol. The obsession with Western civilization was a little sus though 🥴

The tart smell of those pomegranates was almost overwelming. I had a sudden desire to eat them, but then I remembered the story of Persephone.

Covid cases in Michigan are crazy high again and still rising. I thought once I got my vaccine that I would feel less scared, but I'm just as anxious as ever. Luckily the weather has been beautiful lately, so I've been walking and reading a lot at the park! 🌿💕📚

DaveGreen7777 Sorry this is still such an anxious time for you, Becky! 😔 Sending you some extra positive energy and healing vibes! 💖🌈 1y
MicheleinPhilly I‘m a clinically anxious person and this last year has certainly not helped with that. A technique that I find helpful, as far as avoiding people not taking proper precautions, etc., is to say in my head “My (breathe in for 2,3,4) Control (breathe out for 2,3,4.) I can‘t control others‘ behavior but I can control my reaction to it. 1y

This book is about the demigod (half human half god) Percy Jackson and his adventure to retrieve the stolen lighting bolt. The story begins with an introduction of Percy Jackson and his life at his home in New York City. Percy is not aware of hit situation in fact his only clue to his destiny he believes is dyslexia but actually he is just able to read an Ancient Greek language.

Riley.Mccloud After getting a first encounter with a monster who believes he stole the lighting bolt of Zeus, Grover (Percys half goat friend) leads him to a safe place called “Camp Half Blood” where he learns important training and the history behind who he is. At the camp he is threatened by a devil fire monster who is actually hades who says that he has her mother and that if he doesn‘t give him the lightning bolt his mother will die. 2y
Riley.Mccloud So naturally he believes he can reason with a god of the under world because he doesn‘t have the actually lighting bolt. Grover and his new female companion, daughter to the god of war, Annabeth. They than go on a quest but in order to actually get back from hades safe they need orbs that help them travel wherever they think about. So they go on there quest to a variation of places 2y
Riley.Mccloud looking for the orbs whilst monsters are on the hunt for zeus‘s Bolt that they believe Percy has. They get the orbs, kick monster butt, and then get to hades where Percy finds out he was setup because he actually does have the bolt, an evil camp member Luke put it in his shield to cause war amongst the gods. they forgot to do simple math so they don‘t have enough orbs to take everyone and someone has to stay behind, 2y

Riley.Mccloud Grover decides it is going to be him and they go home and eventually return the bolt to the gods and the gods are no longer mad at each other. Percy also gets to meet his dad Poseidon for the first time and everything turns out just fine. The books point of view is first person told from the perspective of Percy Jackson, 2y
Riley.Mccloud the author shows that it is in first person by using words such as “I” or “We”. If you like books that are intense interesting and very creative to the end this book is the book for you. 2y
MissYaremcio Great review Riley! Have you read the series before? 6/6 2y
