I was a bit disappointed in this book. I really enjoyed the first book while looking forward to reading this one. I would have given up on it but I did the audiobook and Will Wheaton was amazing.

Book 28/100 of the year.

Aims42 I was bummed out with this one also 😔 The first one was so good! 2mo
RamsFan1963 My main problem with the sequel was that Wade went from loveable underdog, in the first book, to arrogant douchbag. It took time for me to get over the natural dislike for him. 2mo
Graciouswarriorprincess @RamsFan1963 I totally agree. I really disliked Wade in this book, even at the end. 2mo

I enjoyed this one, but I‘m not sure I like the ending. I know that some people believe it would be great to live forever, but I‘m not one of them. If you‘ve ever watched The Good Place, then you know how it ends. That‘s what I‘d like for myself.

I spent the weekend in the OASIS. The first one was as good as I remembered and in the second, I felt a little bogged down by the pop culture references (seven shards vs. three keys), and the ending left me a little disturbed. But I don‘t read much sci-fi, so maybe that‘s the norm?

I loved Ready Player One, ready for my second installment!

TLuvs The start was a little slow but the rest was the 1980s and 1990s pop culture that I loved from Ready Player One. Some good twists and lots of action later, the ending was just as I'd hope it would be. Really liked this duology! 13mo

This started really slow The first third of the book was technical info setting up the rest of the story. It was not as good as the first in the series, but still a decent read.

This was fine? I mean it was cool, the way it left off immediately from book one, and then took you forward after that to see what became of the original gang. However as usual it‘s crowded with references and stuff and that does get a little tiring for me. Cool plot, too much detail, hope it becomes a movie. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Not as good as the first. Just really drawn out and nothing really new was happening for me. I just didn‘t care for the way this one was done. I found it boring and hard to get through which was super disappointing because I loved the first one so much!

This book was highly entertaining, but I couldn‘t take it as seriously as the first one. It felt like the author was more interested in jamming in as many pop culture references as possible than working on plot points.

It was chaotic energy, and I never knew what was gunna happen next - which is bad writing in my opinion, but highly fun to read if you just sit back and enjoy the ride.

To be completely honest I was kind of disappointed in this one. I wanted to like because i was a fan of the first one. But I just could not get into it. I think Wade reverts to the version of himself from the first book (and not in a good way). I was really looking forward to this when it came out but after reading it I was definitely let down by it #bookreview #booktube #reading

This novel was a great book about how teenagers won a billionaires contest and became the owners of the largest company called the oasis but with the release of the new ONI. It become very clear that issues were going to arise and they did. This story is shown through the eyes of wade using a first person point of view established using the pronouns I or me. I would definitely recommend this book to those who like technology based fiction books.

Straddling the “pick” vs. “so-so” on this one, but ultimately going with Pick. No, of course it‘s not as good as Ready Player One because that was amazing and there‘s just no way a sequel could ever be as good. But I don‘t think this deserves quite the bad rep it‘s gotten. Cline does try too hard sometimes w/ the 80‘s references, but there were still some moments of genius in there. Didn‘t care for the epilogue, tho.

i enjoyed making this my first read of the year, while it did start a bit slow once the action picked up it was very easy to get through. i definitely enjoyed the original more, but it was still fun to see a continuation of the story. while it‘s definitely not my favorite, I don‘t regret reading it

In this novel wade after winning a contest tells the friends about the new release of the ONI more problems begin to arise. Overall I am hooked with this book it got me because of all the excitement from ready player one. I do think that you need to read or watch ready player one to understand this book because a lot of it relays off the first book. Overall I think the book is great and am really looking forward to finishing it. I‘d rate it 4.5/5

Currently reading Ready Player Two. A Gentleman in Moscow took me a long time to get through, but I'm really glad I read it. A Walk in the Woods was good, but suffered from having been written 25 years ago. If you can get past the misogyny and fat shaming, the rest is interesting.

mcctrish I felt the same way about A gentleman in Moscow. It begs not to be rushed and I struggled with that at times, but it was a transporting novel 2y

I'm still undecided on the book, though. This one drags on a bit more than the original, I think, but the characters and the adventure are enough to keep me going for the moment. Hoping for a strong ending!

Yeah I really enjoyed this book. Some people say it‘s not as good as the first one and yeah I can see where they‘re coming from, but this matches perfectly the effort that the original put in. It also looks at the dangers of virtual reality to a greater degree. I really like this book,

I‘d give this a 3/5. Another review mentioned that Wade‘s self-flagellation in the first part of the book gets tedious. And it really does. I enjoyed the quest for the Seven Shards although as much as I love Prince, that section seemed long. And I dozed during the Tolkien part but that is normal for me. Still, I enjoyed it and if there is a movie made, would probably watch it.

TheAromaofBooks I definitely struggled a lot more with RP2. I didn't exactly regret reading it, but while I definitely see myself rereading RP1, I'll never revisit RP2. It was so much clunkier & felt like it was trying too hard. I also felt like the ending was not satisfying. 3y
Bits @TheAromaofBooks Definitely clunky and forced. I found the quests painfully slow and bogged down. I wanted to see the characters through to the end, but you're right, the end was just meh. Oh well! It's off my TBR! 😆 3y

The beginning is really slow, full of angsty exposition & self loathing, also hints at action, then nothing happens. Saying that, the last half made it worth it.
The High Five band together to save the OASIS (after bringing about the cause of the crisis to being with) after users are trapped by new ONI headsets that allow users to experience the OASIS like never before. Anarak is back with a very Frankenstein-esque plan & only Wade can stop him.

vonnie862 Listening to this right now! Good to know that it gets better. 😊 3y

So. I mean... it had a “good“ ish story toward the end (when they got to the point), but... I know the whole references nostalgia thing is the main thing with that, but... ugh... took so long to deal with it! Like too long! Or I just didn't care. Anyway, this was my #DoubleSpin Book

@TheAromaOfBooks

TheAromaofBooks I had similar feelings about this one. In the first book, the 80s trivia felt natural & fit with the flow of the story, but in this one it just felt like Cline wanted everyone to be impressed with his research on a couple of select areas. I didn't hate it, but I don't see myself rereading it the next time I reread RP1. 3y

So, my husband and I listened to Ready Player One on one of our road trips, he liked it. I hated it.. It had a lot of “look at me, I am super nerdy and that makes me cool and you are stupid for not knowing obscure 80s references“. He told me Ready Player Two was “better“ .. We got it on audible, he listened, I hadn't .. It's been sitting on my back burner, but.. I had been meaning to .. here goes.

This teetered between a soft pick and a so-so. It's too long and seriously drags in several parts. The first part of the book, where Wade goes from loveable underdog of RPO to rich arrogant douche bag of RPT, almost had me ready to bail. Things picked up once the quest began and the high stakes started ticking down. I found the ending a major let down. Wil Wheaton's narration is excellent as usual.
