Really enjoyed this one and I‘m not a big fan of the author. Although I do have to say she does NOT make likable characters. Her books are more like watching a terrible fight between two terrible people, you just cannot look away. Also checking in with my buddy @BookwormAHN how you doin‘? The last few months and days have been terrible for me but I still get up each day, so I‘ve got that going for me, which is nice.

BookwormAHN August so far has sucked for me. On the first I found out I had Covid so I did the medication and quarantined myself. My sense of smell is still gone and I woke up with a migraine. I'm ready for September and I'd like to skip the rest of August 🤷🏼‍♀️ 7h

I finally get to start reading this book, and I‘m very excited!! I just hope that “book-tok” hasn‘t overrated this book as it has done for many others. I‘m genuinely excited to read this book, just hope it doesn‘t disappoint! 🤞

This book surprised me by being less about Evelyn's husbands and more about her wife.

The story kept me interested and I didn't have a clue about why Evelyn chose Monique to write her biography.

PS - this is an antique bride's basket that I inherited from my mom 😊

This is one of the most hyped books I've ever read and, for the most part, I think it lived up to its reputation. I saw part of the twist ending coming, but not all of it. While it's probably not entering the ranks of my all time favorites, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Wow! What a story! What a brilliant, story that combines being Bisexual for one women or Biracial for another and how their stories intertwine. Amazing, excellent, loved the cast of Characters, loved the multiple narratora for each of the three main characters. Just stunning. Beautiful. Well done. Highly recommend.

A book that kept me wondering how it would end the moment I started reading it. There was always a sense of mystery, where I knew something big was going to happen, and I continued to think about what that could have been. But, fair to say, I could not predict the big ending! This was a fast-paced book, while the characters were given the time necessary to be developed really well. An emotional roller coaster, but I am glad I picked this book up!

This story is not what I thought it would be. I know you are never suppose to judge a book by its cover, but I did and I was wrong for it. This was a really wonderful story. Gripping from start to finish. I laughed and cried. I will be thinking about for days.

Such an amazing book! Honestly my comfort Read, and have Read multiple times! The best for having a good cry too. This is definitely not an example of a healthy relationship, but I‘m so invested. I wish Taylor Jenkins-Reid would write a follow up of just their future together instead of the small snippet we were given at the end! Celia and Evelyn, Evelyn and Harry, some amazing relationship x

Oh my word! I LOVED this book. It was entertaining, romantic, fast paced and heart breaking. I thought the fact that it alters between two timelines worked so well for Evelyn's story--I seriously feel like she was a real person. Perfect book to read for Pride Month 🏳️‍🌈 and I'm kicking myself for not reading it sooner. @shellleigh33 I remember you saying once this was one of your favs, are her others this good?!

This super fun book about a mega movie star who shares her personal story with an unknown writer is intriguing but gets more and more interesting with each chapter. The author ties up every last end yet leaves us wanting to read 3 more chapters! Very readable and modern take on society‘s norms on relationships

Have you ever read a novel where you hated the main character but found the story compelling?

Have you ever read a novel where you loathed the main character‘s lifestyle choices but can still find compassion in those choices?

Have you ever read a novel you did not like where the boundaries of love were pushed too but can still see the need for love in all circumstances?

Kammbia1 The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid answers in the affirmative to those aforementioned questions. This runaway bestseller (soon to be a Netflix movie) tells the story of the legendary actress Evelyn Hugo. Evelyn agrees to reveal her life to journalist Monique Grant as an exclusive tell-all. However, Hugo has her reasons for choosing Grant to tell her life story.

2mo
Kammbia1 Evelyn chronicles her rise to Hollywood fame and infamy, her seven marriages, her love affairs, and the choices she made to become the mega star she desperately wanted to be. On the surface, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo are salacious, gossipy, and all the things that pop culture has become as we are knee deep into the social media age. However, Jenkins Reid provides a surprising depth with Hugo that loathed and intrigued at the same time. (edited) 2mo
Kammbia1 These quotes give Evelyn‘s perspective on love that is profound:
People think that intimacy is about sex. But intimacy is about truth. When U realize U can tell someone your truth, when U can show yourself to them, when U stand in front of them bare & their response is “you‘re safe with me”–that‘s intimacy. When U dig just the tiniest bit beneath the surface, everyone‘s love life is original & interesting and nuanced & defies any easy definition
2mo
Kammbia1 Words of wisdom from an unexpected place. These quotes are bookends and to me drive the heart of the novel. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo will be classified as a beach read or an airport read by some readers. However, the power of good fiction and storytelling is making a reader care about a character that you would loathe if they were a real person. Taylor Jenkins Reid did that in spades in this novel and deserves major kudos. Well done…. 2mo

I usually read 1 novel at a time. I‘m finishing up All The Seas Of The World by Guy Gavriel Kay.

However, I saw the eBook copy of Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo available at my local library. I had to check it out. I started reading it & made it through Evelyn‘s 1st Husband. I like it already.

I could not be reading 2 totally different novels at the same time. But good stories don‘t always have to come in the same manner. The power of reading!

Nikki_E When I was reading this my husband randomly asked me, “What husband are you on?”. 2mo
Kammbia1 @Nikki_E Yeah I can see that. I just read about the 1st husband this morning. I‘m curious about the other 6 husbands. 😂 (edited) 2mo
Sophronisba Oh, this was so good, I liked it even more than Daisy Jones and the Six. I think Reid has a new book coming out this summer, about an Eighties tennis player. 2mo
Kammbia1 Good to know @Sophronisba. This is my first time reading Reid‘s work. Very enjoyable and readable so far! 2mo

I wasn‘t sure what to expect going in to this, but I ended up loving it. I quickly got caught up in the movie-star life of Evelyn Hugo, and especially her love life. Heartbreaking and heartwarming, tragic and hopeful, the book gave me all the feels.
