Good book, very different from the tv show, almost unrecognizable. It ended a little abruptly, but it was a very easy read with an enjoyable plot.

Taking a break from reading tonight to bing this! 😍 I discovered the new episodes while searching for The Princess Bride movie. (My daughter asked me what The Princess Bride was!! 😱 #ParentingFail ) I totally plan on rectifying this grievance!

Literary_Siren @Shaneyney I have no idea. I‘ve never read any of her books and I usually don‘t watch shows like this but I got hooked on the first episode of the first season and now I can‘t get enough! 5y

Sweetkokoro I have The Princess Bride on dvd and my daughter has watched it plenty of times with me (I made sure she knew what it was) and she finds me crazy for knowing majority of it word for word. And she still doesn‘t seem to understand my love for this movie haha. Hopefully your little one will enjoy it! 5y

I know Jack and Elizabeth are the main couple but these two are my favorite in the TV show. They are sweet, funny, and just such interesting characters 😆😉😍😍

Does anyone else watch When Calls the Heart on the Hallmark channel? I loved this book while growing up. It was one of my favorites and I love the show! The last season just came to Netflix and I can't wait to watch it.

ReadingSusan @CrowCAH yes! I love this first book in the Canadian West series more than the Love Comes Softly series. The rest of the books aren't as good as the first but this first one is my favorite of all of Jeanette Oke's books. 7y

ReadingSusan @megt really the show and the books are not that similar. They kept Elizabeth's name and the male lead is a Mountie and maybe two plot points and that's it. 7y

so-so

After the election, I needed some feel-good brain candy. Netflix recommended this Hallmark show about a school teacher from a rich family who loves to a small coal-mining town and falls in love with a Mountie. The first season was entertaining (albeit the least diverse TV show I have EVER seen in my life) so I gave the book a chance. It was okay but not my thing. I'd give it probably 3 stars. If you like Christian romance, give it a try.

charminggoats I'd also like to say that the show and the book are only slightly alike. The heroine's name is the same and their occupations are the same, but that's about it. 7y

I love this book. I read it for the first time when I was twelve or thirteen and have read it many times since then as you can tell from the tattered cover. I love the story of Elizabeth going forward to teach in the wilderness. The romance isn't my absolute favorite now that I am older but the nostalgia factor on this book is really high.

ReadingSusan @BraveNewBooks omg yes! I loved all of Janette Oke's books. I was pen pals with Gilbert Morris. I wrote him a letter about the Winslow books because he wrote about my ancestor in there and he responded. We sent letters back and forth for 4 or 5 years. He was so nice. 7y

This was my first ever Jannette Oke book. I was in early high school, being homeschooled by deeply Christian parents. This was the closest I was allowed to get to "romance", but it was the adventure and courage of the characters that drew me in, I didn't see the "romance" until years later.
