Lacey Acosta's mother died when she was three. Growing up in a Victorian mansion in the middle of the woods with her cold, distant father, she explored the dark hallways of the estate with her cousin, Margaret. They're inseparable--a family. When her aunt Penelope, the only mother she's ever known, tragically disappears while walking in the woods surrounding their estate, Lacey finds herself devastated and alone. Margaret has been spending a lot of time in the attic. She claims she can hear her dead mother's voice whispering from the walls. Emotionally shut out by her father, Lacey watches helplessly as her cousin's sanity slowly unravels. But when she begins hearing voices herself, Lacey finds herself confronting an ancient and deadly legacy that has marked the women in her family for generations.

I don‘t want to be too hard on this book. If you enjoy YA, this would be a pick. It‘s definitely creepy! There were a lot of teenage decisions made that I found frustrating, and the story was written in the first person, which is not my favorite because few authors can do it well. As an adult read, it was just ok. If YA horror is your thing, this is an #October recommend 🕷🕯🔪 #haunted #YA #horror ⭐️⭐️⭐️

BookishTrish YA horror is my thing. Stacked! 12mo

Literally read this in one sitting. Such a fantastic book and totally had so many elements that I love in it! I always love grand manors in books and this did not disappoint. I wanted a bit more history of certain elements, but that is just me being persnickety. Definitely going to look into other books by this author! Highly recommend this one!

JoScho Sounds good! Stacking. Is it set in modern day? 1y
sparrowssavvy @JoScho Yes, although they leave it slightly ambiguous which I really enjoyed. 1y

Trigger warning for self harm!

This book gave me major Sinister vibes, which I loved! I had a hard time putting it down because I just had to find out what was really going on. Super creepy and, at times, gruesome. I'll definitely be picking up her other book, Daughters Unto Devils.

Well that was scary. I was very happy to drop this off at the library. I couldn‘t stop reading it even though it was gross and scary. Usually YA horror isn‘t that bad! And yes I am a wuss, deal with it.

super creepy and completely addicting, i read this in about 5 hours today and was hooked.

not as much as i would've liked to have been. only 4 stars. but that just because of the lack of descriptions. I LOVED the plot. this book was perfect for fans of horror.

The premise is very interesting but could use a better editor and a revision to the ending.

First post on here and I'm feeling the Election Eve tension! So what am I doing? Snuggling with a cat and reading a horror novel! I greatly enjoyed DAUGHTERS UNTO DEVILS by Amy Lukavics, and this is her newest foray into horror. At least this is a horror story I know isn't real. We shall see how tomorrow goes...

BookishFeminist I also have my horror books out tonight. 😶 3y

This was just ok. It wasn't scary and the characters weren't that good. It took too long to get to the real story. It was so weird to first describe this elegant diner where people come dressed in their finest and then the food is corn or hamburgers. That was so strange. Also I think the house in the cover of the book doesn't match with the describtion in the book. These are only details but when there are enough of these it gets really anoying.

Strange, gruesome things are happening in this "sacred" house. Things become even stranger when the walls begin talking. A quick, spooky read.

The best part of this book is the very last page. In the acknowledgments there is a reference for Stephen King's It. Yeah, I didn't like this book so much.

Although this kept me reading and was imaginatively gruesome in places, the ending disappointed me so much that I am now exasperated with the whole book. The characters were also rather flat.

I really wanted this to be good but it just fell flat for me. It had some really spooky scenes but overall was kind of bland. However, I am excited to see what Lukavics writes next!

kswartz I felt the same. I was giving it the benefit of the doubt up until the end, hoping there would be some sort of brilliant and triumphant payoff, but no. 3y

Visited a bookstore today. My order had arrived. Women in the walls looks like a perfect book for a dark and cold autumn before the winter arrives. The other book was an interesting find. It is a collection of stories of mistakes done by famous and historical people and the consequences that followed.

Reading a creepy book from this great view.

BekahB I am so excited for this book!! I loved and was thoroughly scared by Daughter Unto Devils last year. It fell under my 'lock this book in my freezer' rating of scary. I think The Women in the Walls might be my most anticipated YA release this year! 😀 3y

Somewhere between Pan and So-so... I really enjoyed the first half- very creepy and atmospheric. The second half got progressively more absurd until a rushed ending that was just grotesque. It was almost like two completely different books.
