New from the author of Escape from Mr. Lemoncellos Library and coauthor of the I Funny series with James Patterson! Celebrate the power of imagination with this action-packed New York Times bestseller that shows that sometimes the real story starts after you close the book! What if your favorite characters came to life? Billys spending the summer in a lakeside cabin that belongs to the mysterious Dr. Libris. But something strange is going on. Besides the security cameras everywhere, theres Dr. Libriss private bookcase. Whenever Billy opens the books inside, he can hear sounds coming from the island in the middle of the lake. The clash of swords. The twang of arrows. Sometimes he can even feel the ground shaking. Its almost as if the stories hes reading are coming to life! But thats impossible . . . isnt it? A wonderful tale. . . . This book is like no other Ive read. Its a complete original. James Patterson"Kids will enjoy the cartoonish mayhem, especially given Grabenstein's breezy narrative voice and jaunty wit....as in 'Lemoncello', there is a winning generosity and sweetness to the story's telling."--The New York Times"Chris Grabenstein gleefully plunders great works of literature for his cast of secondary characters . . . a madcap mash-up that 8-to-12 year olds will want to devour in big gulps."The Wall Street Journal"Effortlessly readable and a whole lot of fun." In this book by the author of the Lemoncello series, the MC visits a mysterious island where he runs into the characters from books he‘s been reading- Hercules, Robin Hood, Tom Sawyer, & Pollyanna, to name a few.
Next up in #MGMarch audio: The War I Finally Won which I am really looking forward to.

megnews @sblbooks it is somewhat. And I liked it. But it‘s nowhere near as good as Pages & Co. I just loved that one too much. 3y
sblbooks @megnews me too! 5⭐ 3y

I wanted to like this more than I did. I love the Lemoncello series, and this felt like a distant first draft. I liked the adventures on the island and the way all the characters interacted, but the Dr. Libris framing story felt forced and I HATED the parents‘ story and its resolution.

On the upside, I read this in one day while fighting a wicked cold, so that‘s something positive. 3/5⭐️

I started EO Wilson‘s On Human Nature yesterday, only to contract the plague (or my daughter‘s post-vacation cold) and have zero attention span for it.

So maybe the tagged book will work while I‘m miserable.

I think children would love the idea of “books coming to life”. Children love to use their imagination; this story would reinforce that.

Genre: Modern Fantasy
This is a story about a boy named Billy who is spending his summer in Dr. Libra‘s‘ lakeside cabin. Things starting getting weird when the stories that Billy is reading in a mysterious bookcase start coming to life.

Rating: 4 Stars

This is a fun middle grade that has tonnes of references to classic literature!

My only issue with this book is how they handled parents that were divorcing/separating.

Here‘s the story. Had to get the little guy to nap. He wasn‘t. I got in the crib with him and if I lay down eventually he will too. I fell asleep.

Luckily he did too and when I woke up I could sneak out 😂😂😂 now so MUCH needed R&R

Mixing up the reading order for the #24in48 Readathon with an audiobook. Best way to wake up.

This is a juvenile fiction title that one hopes will lead children to seek out some classic literature titles once they've read it.

I really loved escape from Mr limoncello's library, but this one just didn't have the same fun to it. I wanted a quick, light read and it served that purpose but I didn't think the characterization was really consistent and the ending was just too clean. #bookaboutbooks #readharder

I so want to like Grabenstein's books. I've read 2 thus far. Both have great premises and both disappointed. This one takes the reader to Dr. Libris's Island, allegedly a bird sanctuary, but in reality it is a place where Dr. Libris uses your brain waves to make your reading material come to life.
