I originally picked up this book to see if it would be a good teen book club read for work. I don't think it will be suitable for my middle school students, but I am loving this book! I am devouring it at this moment.

Ok here goes my #unpopular opinion. I liked it but didnt love it. The writing was great but there were chunks of the story where I zoned out. I didnt feel like the imagery was there and some parts needed expansion. However, it was a good story with some twists I never saw coming.

ShyBookOwl I also gave this a so-so. I wanted to love it but had basically the same issues as you. 1mo

I really enjoyed this book so I‘m not sure why it was something of a slog to get through towards the end. Maybe because I‘ve been so busy I haven‘t been able to immerse myself fully in the story.

This is the kind of book that I would have LOVED when I was a teen- which is appropriate I suppose. Albert is good at finding the surreal fairytale horror of modern life & also at describing prosaic pleasures & ordinary encounters in fairytale land.

Mogoeg I will definitely read the sequel but I will save it for when I‘m less busy or on vacation! 1mo

I didn't like this retelling of Alice in Wonderland, but I didn't hate it either. It was just okay; It wasn't as dark as what I wanted it to be. Some of the names are outlandish, like Vanella, pronounced vanilla. There was a kidnapping and some scenes that were just so silly. I was disappointed I read the whole book and one thing wasn't answered that I think was kind of a big thing, but maybe it'll be in the next book.

Start: 09/12/19
End: 14/12/19
Genre: Fantasy
I chose this book because had an attractive cover and I understand what it feels like to blame yourself for what happens around you.
About: A short description of the would-be that the main character Alice has bad luck which affects the lives around her. Her grandmother made stories and they were all set in Hinterland where the supernatural creature came from that stole her mother.

This book had the most promising beginning. It had a live interest, a riveting plot, and a relatable main character. However, the book lost me with drastic twists and turns, heartless actions, and lack of morals. Not to mention any fan girl would dislike the turnout of the love interest. All in all, great writing, but the plot disappoints.

Just sat down to dive back into this awesome book about fairy tales wreaking havoc and y‘all I am completely in love with this cover. I keep closing the book to stare at it hahaha. You know it kind of reminds me of those awesome scratch art sets I used to get as a kid. Anyone else remember those? Anyways I‘m about half way through this book and ya girl Melissa got me hooked on these characters. Can‘t wait to find out what happens to them.

I was lucky enough to win a copy of The Hazel Wood to participate in #hazelwoodwednseday! This isn‘t a re-read for me, but here are my thoughts/questions: There is an obvious obsession with eyes. Windows to the soul? Who is collecting everything Tales From The Hinterland related, and why? Why could Finch see Twice-Killed Katherine? Is it simply because he has read it, or does Alice bring something out?

Pickpick

I love fairytales but am often bitterly disappointed by new attempts at the genre. Not with Albert‘s foray. Even when I saw where things were headed there were thorny twists and some chilling turns just they way there should be. The relationship between the mother and daughter neatly turns the savior motif around. Quite satisfying.
