Just finished this! I have mixed feelings about it. I think it depicted the maniac and depressive episodes of bipolar disorder well. However, i found the solutions to her problems, especially her mental health to be very idealistic. Each problem seemed readily solved. I also think the romantic relationship did not add anything to the story. Overall, it's a good depiction of bipolar disorder but not a great plot or development based story

This was fantastic! Mel was such a great, complex character and the storyline was very dark and complicated. 10/10.

Without sounding harsh, I found Mel to be bright, confident and honest, but the way she tracked her feelings was incredibly juvenile. This is where her relationship with the retired doctor could have been fleshed out—this was a flaw in the story in that there was a beautiful and honest relationship that was never explored and this could have been the perfect vehicle to her memories of Nolan.
All-in-all, a good read.

Very good. Definitely made me want to keep reading to put the story together, and there are some intense parts that I couldn‘t put the book down.

Quick YA mental health read , which packs a heavy punch of the feels. I don't know if it was 100% accurate with the rep of Bipolar disorder, but I could relate to the mental health parts as a whole.

Dogearedcopy Gah! I turned Featured Post OFF on my settings, and this shows up in my feed?! How do I make this stop? @getlitsy 7y
Bostonmomx2 @Dogearedcopy what do you mean? 7y
Litsy @Dogearedcopy This is a limited-time promoted post from Book Riot. Thank you for your understanding! 7y
See All 61 Comments
Dogearedcopy @Bostonmomx2 It means that I misunderstood last week's Book Riot post pinned to the top of my feed, and this week's Book Riot post integrated into my feed, to be Featured Posts that would disappear if I turned off Featured Posts in my settings. It turns out that these are *sponsored posts*; and are the test run for future ads to appear in everyone's Litsy feed, just like Instagram. 7y
DGRachel @Litsy I'd be willing to pay for the app if I meant I didn't have to deal with ads clogging up my feed. 7y
Bostonmomx2 @Dogearedcopy oh interesting. Thanks for explaining. I had no idea there were sponsored posts. I've never seen one. I hate sponsored ads so if that becomes a trend here, well...... 😕 7y
Dogearedcopy @DGRachel @Litsy Ditto! I would gladly pay an Opt Out fee to keep ads/sponsored posts from my feed! 7y
Zelma @Litsy yeah, I might be out too if this app starts cluttering up with ads. Please, please don't go that route. 7y
monkeygirlsmama This cover is simple and yet stunning. 7y
KathyWheeler If this were an ad for shampoo, I'd feel the same way some of you do, but it's a sponsored post recommending a book. Book Riot is a site I actually even go to and read on purpose for book recommendations so I'm not offended or upset by seeing an occasional post from them. 7y
RebL I agree with @KathyWheeler. 7y
ReadingEnvy @Litsy At the very least a sponsored post should be labeled as such. I also would like to know the connection between Book Riot and Litsy. 7y
TirzahPrice Book Riot has similar posts on their IG feed. They're tagged with the ad hashtag, but they're not "sponsored" posts--as in, they're not paying for them to be tagged in the algorithm to show up on your feed repeatedly. It's just another way a new media site makes money to pay their writers and editors. I've never found them excessive, and they're always on topic. 7y
TirzahPrice (Full disclosure: I write for BR but I'm not speaking for them here!) 7y
DGRachel My objection is not to the content. I follow Book Riot on Litsy. I object to it continuing to pop up out of order. I've seen this post half a dozen times because it doesn't stay where it should in my feed. It causes me to miss other posts because when I see a post I've "liked" I assume I'm caught up with my feed and leave the app. 7y
Suet624 @DGRachel I agree. I've seen this post at least 5 times since yesterday. 7y
Clare-Dragonfly @DGRachel Yes, I agree! 7y
Bklover @DGRachel YESSSS!!! 7y
OrangeMooseReads I have now seen this ad 5 times today! 7y
Chelsey @DGRachel yes! Exactly! 7y
Lindy I thought if I unfollowed @bookriot on @Litsy I would stop seeing this post. Then, when it popped up again, I read through all the comments and realized it's an ad. It's an ad about a book so I can live with it, even though the repetition is annoying. 7y
MidnightBookGirl I have seen this ad so many times that I'm starting to hate the book. 7y
LibrarianRyan @Lindy @MidnightBookGirl I agree. And I have no real room to complain as I just posted over 30 upcoming book covers, but man. It pops up,between every 2 posts. 7y
MarriedtoMrT I can live with sponsored posts but not the extent this one is popping up. I thought I was losing my mind. I'm off today and have been on the app a lot. Between last night and this morning I've probably seen it 12 times or more. Too much! Maybe an algorithm tweak? 7y
rubyslippersreads @MarriedtoMrT I agree. I know @Litsy has to support itself, and I don't mind ads for books, but maybe just not so often? 😊 7y
kalinichta @rubyslippersreads @MarriedtoMrT Thirded. I've seen this five times since just last evening - it's a little much. 7y
Melissa_J I agree with most of what's being said here. In general I don't have an issue with sponsored posts so long as they are relevant, but I do have an issue with the same post popping up over and over again. 7y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk Trying really hard to restrain myself from posting a new snarky comment every time this thing comes around. We shall see if I succeed. Hope you're having a lovely day! 7y
Purrfectpages This is funny because I wasn't paying attention to who wrote this and I just assumed lots of people were recommending it lol 7y
Snd.sultan @Arabiology recommended by mosaic 😍 7y
LiteraryinLawrence I would rather have the option to pay a small fee than see ads, even ones about books. This is a friendly online space because people post about books without any agenda. If someone is trying to sell me something, then the vibe gets uncomfortable. I like Litsy the way it is! 7y
elkeOriginal Once is fine but this post/book are just pissing me off now after seeing it about 8 times In 4 hours (feels like). Feature it ONCE. Then be done. Sheesh. Hate this book now. 7y
elkeOriginal I seriously thought I was having a stroke because this just kept popping up again and again 😠 7y
elkeOriginal Oh, goddammit. It pops up every 5 minutes!! 7y
elkeOriginal Ah, every time I refresh, this post moves up. NOT COOL. 7y
Jess_Read_This @elkeo Omg!! Yes!!! I thought maybe it was a bug at first but think something else is at work. Also, there seems to be a big influx of the bookstagrammers making their way over to Litsy and I'm wondering what that's all about too... 🤔 7y
elkeOriginal @Jess_Read_This I emailed Litsy and it does maybe seem to be an IT issue. The bookstagrammers are another thing...the hashtags are out of control so at least they are easy to spot/unfollow if needed... 7y
Jess_Read_This @elkeo Thanks for the update! I hope it's an easy fix for them. And yes.. those hashtags... 🤦🏽‍♀️😂 7y
Ms_T Will blocking Bookriot stop this promoted post from appearing in my feed? 7y
britt_brooke I'd gladly pay a fee for a "premium" version of Litsy to be ad-free. 7y

Book one of the #readathon DONE!
This book focuses on bipolar and really takes you inside the character living with the mental illness, while also capturing the usual teenage issues that are going on. I loved the MC, her friends, the nursing home residents where she worked and her relationship with her mum and Aunty. 5 stars.

This story got me. I don't often read books where any character has bipolar because I'm to close to it. This one though I really connected to Mel, the MC who has bipolar because it's a very realistic depiction. It was emotionally charged, the family situation, the friend drama, wasn't over done, didn't distort the story. I really liked the authenticity, she was me I was 10 years ago. It was odd and sometimes hard to read but absolutely worth it.

I definitely recommend the book. It‘s not very long, moves quickly, and gives an alternate view of bipolar disorder than many are used to.

This book gives you an entirely new perspective on what living with an invisible disability must be like. Battling with your body and your mind everyday to feel "normal" is a normal occurrence for the main character Mel. While not strong in storyline, it makes up for it in the things you learn.

I found the first 2/3 of this book slow (and hard to come back to), but after that everything fleshes out and I ended up enjoy the novel. I think a big problem for me was my lack of connection to the MC until after that 2/3 part. There are diverse characters (LGBT and POC) and I felt the author's handling of bipolar disorder was done well. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
