In this propulsive, twist-filled, and haunting psychological suspense debut perfect for fans of Sharp Objects and Room, a seventeen-year-old girl struggles to remember the role she played on the night her life changed forever. For the past two weeks, seventeen-year-old Kate Bennet has lived against her will in an isolated cabin in a remote beach town--brought there by a mysterious man named Bill. Part captor, part benefactor, Bill calls her Evie and tells her he's hiding her to protect her. That she did something terrible one night back home in Melbourne--something so unspeakable that he had no choice but to take her away. The trouble is, Kate can't remember the night in question. The fragments of Kate's shattered memories of her old life seem happy: good friends, a big house in the suburbs, a devoted boyfriend. Bill says he'll help her fill in the blanks--but his story isn't adding up. And as she tries to reconcile the girl she thought she'd been with the devastating consequences Bill claims she's responsible for, Kate will unearth secrets about herself and those closest to her that could change everything. A riveting debut novel that fearlessly plumbs the darkest recesses of the mind, Call Me Evie explores the fragility of memory and the potential in all of us to hide the truth, even from ourselves.

I enjoyed the read, but some of the plot just didn‘t make sense to me.

Spent some time at Chapters and the #thriftstore this morning, and managed to pick up 15 books for $32. Not a bad deal at all!

If you‘ve read any of these, let me know your thoughts! ☺️

3 Stars Heads up this book has tigger warnings related to trauma. The suspense was great but it started to get confusing with the odd timeline of before and after. It's written in the first person too, but then at the very end the point of view changes. The first person "I" is hard for me to get into a story sometimes. Overall a decent read.

Well, this was creepy! And not as cookie cutter as a lot of psych thrillers these days. Kate/Evie is being held against her will. She's told that it's to protect her from herself, but she can't seem to recall the events of the night in question. What happened? The suspense definitely builds and while the ending wasn't perfect, I was also never certain what was going on. All in all an entertaining read! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A very well written thriller, a debut.. & I will look out for this author in the future.
Written on a fine line of what is true or untrue , what is memory ? What happened ?
Set in a remote beach area of New Zealand which adds to the eerie atmosphere ... it will take me a while to process who was who , and what it all means. Well thought out & intriguing.

( pic of first white flower from our bush that we don‘t know the name of ....

It was a big yes from me for Call Me Evie. It‘s always hard to review thrillers without giving too much away. Suffice to say, if you like mysteries that slowly unravel, in which you narrator (seems) to know as much as you do, this is definitely for you. Call Me Evie is taut and perfectly paced. I loved it.

Cathythoughts I have this one 👍🏻think I‘ll try it soon 3y

🎧 BOOK NAME = TELL ME LIES. Another Book not in this APP‘s database. This is one of the two free monthly books you get as an Audible member. They‘re more novella-size. This is a great free little book!! Mystery/Thriller. It has twists & turns. Psychologist meets her match. I‘d recommend this book if you like thrillers. I enjoyed it! (I‘m still trying to get into The Fifth Season) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️3/4

This one was just ok. I read so many thrillers that it‘s hard to surprise me anymore, and the twist wasn‘t all that shocking to me, and maybe I just missed them but the clues didn‘t really seem to be there. I did like how the two timelines worked seamlessly together, and I liked the suspense. But the character‘s motivations didn‘t make sense and were contradictory. Still better than last month though!

This month‘s book club pick! The little I‘ve read so far has been pretty enjoyable, so I‘m hopeful that this will turn out better than last month‘s book (thinking about Asymmetry still makes me mad lol).

YES YES YES!!! Super engaging structure, had me genuinely tense and worried for the characters. If it had been a movie I would have been covering my eyes in fearful anticipation. Well worth the read, highly recommended.

ClairesReads Ooo glad to hear you enjoyed this. I‘ve been a bit on the fence about whether the hype was real (or just marketing) with this one. I‘ll definitely give it a go now. 4y

This was just a big “meh.” I am starting to feel like all thrillers just use the same tropes over and over again. I guessed most of the twists by the end.. and there was a couple aspects that I didn‘t feel were explained at all (but maybe I missed them because I was just skimming toward the end). Nothing particularly bad here, but nothing great either.

It is a negative review, I know and I'm so sorry about. I put a lot of expectations over this book and really wanted to like it, but it left me disappointed. It does have a beautiful cover, tho.

jpmcwisemorgan Negative reviews have their role too. Sometimes I‘m suspicious when I see all positive reviews. Not every book is for every person. Also, the things you didn‘t like might be things that someone else loves. 4y
Hope_a @jpmcwisemorgan Yeah, I know, but somehow I felt bad for the efforts author put into the book. 4y

Slow-burn, but not in a good way. Nothing seemed to happen until the end, and even then it didn‘t slam dunk. It totally kept me reading though because I wanted to know if something was going to happen!

I like a good, twisty thriller and this tries really hard to be that. The “main twist,” so to speak, was easy to guess. As the author tried to turn that twist on its head, it just got confusing and lost any power it might have had. The last 50 pages were an immense disappointment. The book was at a quiet simmer and tried to reach a rolling boil right at the end. It didn‘t. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was a solid, different sort of thriller. I LOVED how the author used memory and psychosis to slowly bring the reader up to speed on what was actually happening and who these main characters were. I‘ll admit I did figure out some of the twists but I could never have guessed how they‘d come about. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

What a fantastic debut novel. I read this in two sittings and when I wasn‘t reading it I was thinking about it. This is sure to be one of the bestselling psychological thrillers of 2019! I had no idea what direction this story was going to in and I wasn‘t disappointed.

Release date March 2019.
