Just a few of my current/about to be current reads. 📚

The style of constantly throwing in social media posts and then immediately quoting the authors (with their glaring grammatical errors) was annoying. Still, I thought the message was good & worthwhile. Thank goodness it is a fast read. I will give her other books a shot & hope the style is more prose & less reposting and quoting…

Very short and quick. I‘m a self help book junkie and loved this book. You can get the gist of it from her Ted talk:Stop screwing yourself over - but I love me some good testimonials. Lol 4 stars

Basically if you want to do something you must do it within 5 seconds before your brain kills the idea and has too much time to think. That‘s all you need to know. The rest of the book is just fluff and gives examples of how others have used the rule. Wouldn‘t waste my time on this

I‘ve gushed about Mel Robbins‘ work before- enough for a lifetime. This Audible Original is no exception. I just get so inspired and motivated listening to her dosing out reality in these coaching sessions and I find something valuable in every one of them. And Mel‘s talk show starts next week. Eek!! 🥳🥳🥳🎉🎉🎉

If you have an impulse to act on a goal, you must physically move within 5 seconds or your brain will kill the idea.

The book around Mel's five second rule is really a lot of fluff. Her TED Talk is more succinct and successful, IMO. It's simple enough. Just not easy.

Thanks @MelAnn for recommending this on audio. Definitely the way to go!

I was v resistant to this initially, but she backs up her simple (but not easy) '5 second rule' with both academic research and social media stories. The research she's looked into covers all sorts- anxiety, procrastination, social stuff, mornings - and I found that particularly helpful! I will actually be listening to this again, and using several of her tips & tricks. 👍

rockpools Her 'rule' is kind of a trigger to stop overthinking, get out of your head and do the difficult stuff, so can be used in all sorts of situations. Overall, an upbeat and encouraging read that does give you a push to do the thing (whatever that may be). 6y
julesG Oh, I need this. I have a giant thought entertainment park in my head. 6y
rockpools @julesG Tell me about it! I was quite doubtful to begin with, but she totally won me round. 6y
MelAnn So glad you enjoyed it - the audiobook is amazing! She‘s got a new audible coming out Monday I think ... and it‘s audible only. I can‘t wait! Love her common sense approach. 6y

Just finished second time thru this book, this time the audiobook! I highly recommend getting the audiobook! The first time I read it was right before my brother died and I just didn‘t retain or apply it all ... This time I already have and it‘s changing my life ... one 5 Second decision at a time .... 5...4...3...2...1...Go!

egg104 This sounds like just the thing I need to read ! Thank you for sharing ❤ 6y

This is something I‘ve wanted to do for 10 months. It‘s a memorial wall / shelf - my brother and my dad. ... The James Bond funko pop is for my dad who loved James Bond. My brother‘s coon skin hat and his cowboy hat... The canvas is a photo my brother took - he was an amazing photographer. ... It was 5 Second Rule book that kicked my ass and I finally got this done!

Hmmm which to choose - Kindle ebook? Audiobook? I can‘t choose the hardback because I loaned it out. That‘s how much I love this book! It really seems so simple - but it has gone a long way to help me deal with my tendencies to self-sabotage! I‘ve reset them for March! I have a few books that I re-read thru the year and this is one of them! #marchbooks #marchtbr #5SecondRule

For February vacation, I wanted to read some motivational books. However...I think there‘s a reason I‘ve never picked up books like this. I cannot handle the second person point of view or constant “real life” examples. Anyone have some suggestions on books that are easier to read? I‘m sure it speaks to some, but 200 pages of the author telling me counting down from five will give me everything I‘ve ever dreamed of is not my cup of tea.

mcipher I‘m not great at the genre either so I‘m curious to see what people suggest! 6y
Chrissyreadit No suggestions but I love the By The Book podcast. They read self help books, try them out and review. 6y
MaureenMc I find Gretchen Rubin‘s books to be very readable. 6y
cewilf @MaureenMc thank you, I‘ll check that out! @Chrissyreadit that sounds like exactly what I‘m looking for to navigate this genre, thank you!! 6y
MelAnn I love this book and the journal and just put out. I read a lot of personal development books and the only thing I don‘t enjoy when it shows up is all of the case studies and stories about other people. I want to know what the book can do for me - didn‘t pick it up to read about other people I don‘t know! 6y

Wow. Stop what you are doing and go pick up this book. Seriously. Right now. Do it. Im normally not big on self-help type books but this was recommended to me by a stranger as a way to help with emotional spending. It did so much more! It really provides an extremely simple way to get up out of bed in the morning and tackle the world. One of my favorite lines is “Leave nothing important unsaid.” A reminder to be present. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
