Solo: A Star Wars Story: Expanded Edition
Solo: A Star Wars Story: Expanded Edition | Mur Lafferty
28 posts | 15 read | 6 to read
Don't miss the exclusive content in this thrilling adaptation of Solo: A Star Wars Story, with scenes from alternate versions of the script including Han Solo's time in the Imperial Navy, Qi'ra's past, the beginnings of the rebellion, and more! Though Han Solo has thrilled Star Wars fans for decades, the notorious wisecracking scoundrel was chasing adventure and dodging trouble long before he walked into the cantina at Mos Eisley spaceport. Young Han dreams of someday soaring into space at the helm of his own starship and leaving his home, the gritty industrial planet Corellia, far behind. But as long as he's trapped in a life of poverty and crime--and under the thumb of the sinister Lady Proxima and her brutal street gang--reaching the distant stars seems impossible. When Han tries to escape with his girlfriend and partner-in-crime, Qi'ra, he makes it out--but she doesn't. Desperate for a way to find his own offworld vessel and free her, Han enlists in the Imperial Navy--the last place for a rebellious loner who doesn't play well with others. When the Empire clips his wings, Han goes rogue and plunges into the shady world of smugglers, gamblers, and con artists. There he meets the charming and cunning high roller Lando Calrissian, makes an unlikely friend in a cantankerous Wookiee called Chewbacca, and first lays eyes on the Millennium Falcon. To snag his piece of the outlaw pie, Han joins a crew of pirates to pull off a risky heist. The stakes are high, the danger is great, and the odds are slim. But never tell Han Solo the odds.

vivastory John Gwynne keeps popping up. I think I'm going to give him a try soon. And Liu's 3 Body Problem trilogy (I think it has a diff name) is one of my faves of all-time. Still think about it years later 2y

This is the book tie in for the movie. I like the movie and getting more into the character's heads is always fun. I especially enjoyed more of Qi'ra's and L3's story.

Vansa I loved this movie. I wish they had continued this story, Alden Ehrenreich was excellent as a young Han Solo. 2y

I love when authors hide little Easter eggs in books.

1. Tagged – I purchased it at the Exchange soon after I got out of quarantine. I didn‘t purchased any books in July 🤔
2. To read, my balcony. To listen to audiobooks, the car
3. Never found a song that sums me up, but one that fits my current mood is Perfect Day by Hoku (from the Legally Blonde soundtrack)

Eggs Thanks for joining in 👏🏻📚🎶🤗 4y

I enjoyed the novelization and learning more about Han and where he started and his motivations. I thought it was well done. Of course, I didn‘t have any expectations of this book other than I thought it would be a fun read. And it was! 👍🏻👍🏻

Note: I have not seen the movie. I know some folks were disappointed with the movie. Regardless, since I haven‘t seen it, I have no comparison.

wkm306 Good level for kids? 4y
BookwormAHN I liked the movie 😺 4y
swynn I also liked the movie. 4y
wanderinglynn @wkm306 maybe teens. I don‘t have kids, so I don‘t read with that filter. But there are issues touched on like slavery, killing to survive, that I probably wouldn‘t want a middle reader to read. 4y

1. I started the tagged that I bought yesterday at the exchange, and also Shockaholic and The History of Bourbon
2. The Adventures of Tom Stranger, Interdimensional Insurance Agent by Larry Correia
3. That will depend on what numbers are drawn for July‘s #bookspin!

BookmarkTavern Number 2 sounds like fun! 😁 4y
wanderinglynn @ozma.of.oz so much fun! 👍🏻 4y

You‘d think I‘d get tired of the novelizations, but the story is still great, and you get a bit more Val and Rio (I‘d happily read whole stories of their exploits), more Qi‘ra and what happened in the missing years, more L3 (she REALLY needs her own TV series/something), Han in Imperial flight school, and more of Lando and his capes. So much fun, and I‘m still amazed at how versatile John Williams score is as it reused in all of these audiobooks!

The next book for my #SummersEndReadathon @Clwojick

awishman This novelization is sooooo good. I absolutely loved what it added for L3, Qi'ra and Val. 5y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @awishman I know, you would think the novelizations would be so boring, but nope they always add more to the story. Solo in flight school was already totally worth it! 5y
Clwojick YASSSSS! This one looks good. 5y

Couldn‘t help but notice our 2 books a month in the summer was a total bust & most people are just reading/finishing June‘s pick. So I revamped the schedule back to 1 a month going forward....which means based on our last vote August‘s read is now Solo, and I‘m pushing off The Princess, the Scoundrel, and the Farm Boy until September. Hopefully that works for everyone and will give everyone a chance to catch up a little.

I watched the Solo movie on a tiny airline movie screen, so I really enjoyed this audiobook. It made some things much more clear and I appreciated reading what was going through Qui‘ra‘s head, as I remember finding her quite inscrutable in the movie. Loved the epilogue too. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A nice companion to the movie! I love that it added several passages from Qi‘ra‘s perspective - she‘s become one of my favorite Star Wars characters! I wish “Solo: A Star Wars Story” had done better at the box office; it‘s definitely worth seeing/reading.
