Monet
Monet: Itinerant of Light | Salva Rubio
10 posts | 5 read | 9 to read
The life of the great French painter, one of the founders of Impressionism, is narrated in lush comic art reminiscent of his style. From the Salon des Refuses ("Salon of the Rejected") and many struggling years without recognition, money, and yet a family to raise, all the way to great success, critically and financially, Monet pursued insistently one vision: catching the light in painting, refusing to compromise on this ethereal pursuit. It cost him dearly but he was a beacon for his contemporaries. We discover in this comics biography how he came to this vision as well as his turbulent life pursuing it.

Though the art style in the book is completely different fromMonet‘s paintings (more gauche then oil) I really enjoyed this book. It was beautifully done and brings a host of emotions with it. Come for the story stay for the beautiful art.

4/5

Despite the name of this graphic novel being Monet, when I picked it up I kept thinking it was about Van Gogh, so I was a little surprised when it opened with an old man getting cataract surgery.

This was a great introduction to Monet's life and taught me more about the impressionists in general. The art is very stylized and beautiful, and I loved the afterword in the end that went into more detail about the inspiration for all the art.

I'm not often too interested in art history; I love going to museums, but I just like what I like. A good story, though, is a good story, and I enjoyed this look at Monet's life and the rise of impressionism. Especially interesting was the author's notes on his process in researching and writing. Thanks to @TK421 for making me aware of it with his post

TK421 I'm glad you liked it! I agree, the author's notes were very interesting. 13mo

#graphicnovelsnews is here with a book that kept me awake last night. The most beautiful biography of Claude Monet with his famous pictures‘ history and a story about Impressionism movement. Stragglers, madness, poverty were in the first half of Monet life before he found success.
Available in Hoopla but Check out the real print with magnificent colors. The book is a nominee for Will Eisner 2018 award

Some days at work you just have to hide in an empty office for 10 minutes of peace, to eat your favorite candy bar, and to finish a delightful graphic novel about Monet.

Since I had fallen behind in reading because my job has been crazy, I decided to use a graphic novel for #booked2018 #floweroncover. Happened to find this on hoopla and thought it sounded interesting. It was and it incorporates Monet's works into the story. Interesting biography. (Yes those are flowers on the lily pads.)
