The follow-up to Caitlin Moran's breakout hit, How to Be a WomanA hilarious collection of award-winning columns, available to American readers for the first time ever. Possibly the only drawback to the bestselling How to Be a Woman was that its author, Caitlin Moran, was limited to pretty much one subject: being a woman. Moranthology is proof that Caitlin can actually be "quite chatty" about many other things, including cultural, social, and political issues that are usually the province of learned professors or hot-shot wonksand not of a woman who once, as an experiment, put a wasp in a jar and got it stoned. Caitlin ruminates onand sometimes interviewssubjects as varied as caffeine, Keith Richards, Ghostbusters, Twitter, transsexuals, the welfare state, the royal wedding, Lady Gaga, and her own mortality, to name just a few. With her unique voice, Caitlin brings insight and humor to everything she writes.

The book outlet gets me, but my poor floor might have other ideas. I picked up this Caitlin Moran book while I wait for Moranifesto from the library, and after reading how to be a woman. Looking forward to reading it this summer. I like her attitude #bookhaul #bookoutlet

#photoadaynov16 #novemberreads not a long list😏but it's the best I could do for November and out of these, Moranthology was my favorite because it made me laugh so hard and I LOVE laughing! The other two were obviously very good too. Also, you can see I am also pretty behind on my reading challenge...but the year isn't over yet! 😆

More time to finish that huge TBR list!

MMenefee TBR list is too long for death. 8y
Twocougs We knew that😉 8y
Suzze I need to live to be 126 to finish my TBR......as long as I stop buying books. No problem. 8y

Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Suzze and as long as they stop writing any new books, right! 8y
Megabooks Yay!!! 8y
Suzze @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Yes! They have to stop writing the hundreds of series I read! 😜😜😜 8y
Lizpixie Oh thank god! Though I'd probably have to live to 230 to finish my tbr. And that's if I stop buying new books now!😂 8y

Some of the essays in this collection were better than others, some purely fun, while others more serious, but all from the heart with Moran's signature quirky wit. From Ghostbuster to Downton Abbey, Marriage & Children, Keith Richards to Paul McCartney, as well as more serious social issues like funding for the arts, poverty, & the importance of libraries. There is definitely something in here for everyone to enjoy, laugh at, & think hard about.

Imagineannie Have you seen the British tv show "Raised by Wolves" which is based on Moran's adolescence? I now want to read everything she's written. 8y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Imagineannie No, but I'll have to look for that on Netflix! 8y

I never thought about it this way, but having just seen the new Ghostbusters film, reading her logic, and realizing my chances of survival in one franchise is WAY better than the other....I think I might have to go with her on this one! 😂 LOL! I do love Star Wars though, sorry Caitlin!

Sue I'd take Bill Murray (or Harold Ramis may he RIP) over Mark Hamill any day. Even as a kid it really bothered me just how whingy he was. 8y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Sue Hahahahaha! But I wasn't watching for him, I was watching for Princess Leia and Han, who were awesome, and still are in the newest installment. As far as Ghostbusters, yes Bill Murray is always awesome, and now I could be Melissa McCarthy as well! 😉 8y
Sue @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Who would not want to be Melissa McCarthy - she is my spirit animal. 😊 8y

Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Sue Yes! She is the best! That's a great spirit animal! 8y
LauraReadsTheBooks Yeah, no, still wanna be a Jedi. Because lightsabers. Literally swords of light, available in assorted colors. 8y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @LauraReadsTheBooks I know! And they are so cool wielding them. Ahsoka was my favorite for a long time, but now with Rey we might actually get some kick butt female Jedi's on the big screen! 8y

... "But art—painting, poetry, film, TV, music, books, magazines—is a world that runs constant and parallel to ours, where we imagine different futures—millions of them—and try them out for size. Fantasy characters can kiss, and we, as a nation, can all work out how we feel about it, without having to involve real shy teenage lesbians in awful sweaters, to the benefit of everyone‘s notion of civility."

tpixie Interesting. 8y
Sue I really enjoy her writing style - she gets her point across! 8y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @tpixie That was my thought too. I never really thought out the current language we use for this discussion, but when I read it I thought...she has a point there. 8y

Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Sue Yes, I enjoyed her other book quite a lot too. 8y
tpixie Maybe we should all quit giving gifts!! That would be such a relief for me!! 8y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @tpixie I agree! LOL! Christmas would be so much easier if we all just got ourselves one thing we really wanted and then spent some time together instead. 8y
tpixie Yes!!! That's why I like Thanksgiving better than Christmas cause it's more about family and not presents! 8y
