David Bowie: The Golden Years
David Bowie: The Golden Years | Roger Griffin
6 posts | 5 to read
David Bowie: The Golden Years chronicles Bowies creative life during the 1970s, the decade that defined his career. Looking at the superstar's life and work in a year by year, month by month, day by day format, and placing his works in their historical, personal and creative contexts. The Golden Years accounts for every live performance: when and where and who played with him. It details every known recording: session details, who played in the studio, who produced the song, and when and how it was released. It covers every collaboration, including production and guest appearances. It also highlights Bowie's film, stage and television appearances: Bowie brought his theatrical training into every performance and created a new form of rock spectacle. The book follows Bowie on his journeys across the countries that fired his imagination and inspired his greatest work, and includes a detailed discography documenting every Bowie recording during this period, including tracks he left in the vault. The Golden Years is an invaluable addition to the Digital shelves of any true Bowie fan.

I couldn't get the whole wall, but my co-worker decided to display READ posters from throughout the decades on the library's display wall. I love those posters.💙

'Valentine told me how he‘d feel
If all the world were under his heel
Or stumbling through the mall
It‘s in his tiny face
It‘s in his scrawny hand
Valentine knows it all
He‘s got something to say
It‘s Valentine‘s Day'

David Bowie - Valentine's Day

I was so fortunate to see the David Bowie exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum of Art yesterday. It included a traveling chest that he used to transport books while on tour. He traveled with 400 books! This is a display in the gift shop featuring a few of his favorite books. I so wanted to purchase the exhibit book, but unfortunately sold out! As were the tickets! An homage to a true creative genius! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

HardcoverHearts I will use that factoid about his traveling with 400 books every single time I travel now. What a great justification and comparison as to why my book packing is not extravagant in the least. 👏🏻😂 (edited) 6y
DivineDiana @HardcoverHearts Yes! I was quite impressed! ❤️ 6y
GripLitGrl Very cool fun fact! With airport luggage fees i could only travel with 400 books on my tablet😂😂 6y

DivineDiana @Cinfhen It was! I always liked Bowie, but now.... I think I‘m in love! And I am so happy that I found the hard cover of the exhibit book on Amazon! On its way, but strangely a rather long delivery time. 🤔 (edited) 6y

ValerieAndBooks Lucky you got to see this! It‘s almost over if not already, is it?? 6y
DivineDiana @LeahBergen It was! ❤️ 6y
DivineDiana @ValerieAndBooks I was very lucky! It ends today! 6y
ValerieAndBooks Yes, lucky you indeed! Wish it had run another few weeks because then that‘s when I could have gone 🤷🏻‍♀️ 6y
DivineDiana @ValerieAndBooks They actually had extended it for two days and the rest of the Museum was closed! It‘s just so hard to do everything! ❤️ (edited) 6y
Suet624 That fact about 400 books is kind of blowing my mind. Were they the same books each time he traveled or did he change them up? Did he know he could purchase books wherever he went? What made those books special to him? 6y
DivineDiana @Suet624 All good questions that I don‘t know the answers! 😀The exhibit book is on its way to me. Maybe there will be more information! (edited) 6y

Hubby left this out for me this morning and I forgot to take pic so this is off amazon! A very pretty, expensive 'coffee table' book. Although we don't have a coffee table.
This is off a great album which has our 'wedding dance' song on ❤

Cathythoughts Nice one 👍 7y
Cinfhen That looks gorgeous 💛💛💛props to hubby ~ what was your wedding song?!? #curiousminds (edited) 7y
Leniverse @TrishB @Cinfhen Wedding song from that album? Has to be Wild is the Wind! ❤️ 7y

Marchpane Gosh Bowie left behind such a wealth of iconic images (in ADDITION to all his wonderful music) - this book looks gorgeous ✨✨ 7y
Reggie Was it Wild is the Wind? I prefer Nina Simone singing that song, but the words of that song carry themselves in any version. 7y
TrishB @Cinfhen @Leniverse @Reggie yes it was Wild is the Wind 💟 My fav version is the Billy McKenzie version, but as Reggie says its the actual song that is awesome. 7y
