Absolutely LOVED this book and movie as well! #1 New York Times bestseller present Wonder. This book is about Auggie dealing with his facial disease and entering a new school after being homeschooled for so long. This RF I would use as an IR in the classroom and then discuss as a class.

Where the Wild Things Are is fifty years old! This Caldecott Medal-winning picture book has become one of the most best loved children‘s books of all time! Feeling miss-understood at home and school, Max ventures out to the land of Wild Things. I would use this RF for a LC. Also there was a movie made back in 2009.

Even in rags, Cinderella is a hundred times more beautiful than her cruel stepsister. She is blessed with a fairy godmother who turns her sad night into something magical. This book would be great for a storytelling (S) to capture the attention of the students.

This book is great to incorporate with literature and history at the same time! Students always know that Washington was our first president, but what else do they know. With this biography (B) they can definitely find out who George Washington really was. Also, I would use this book to incorporate choral reading (CR) to monitor reading from students and to make sure they are paying attention.

This realistic fiction (RF) book reminds up that we need to celebrate those mentors we have/had in our lives and to thank them for the difference they have made. I would use this book for an LC and to ask students who is a mentor in their life.

LeahH For this book I don‘t have a high quality website resource, but an activity that could take place in the classroom, is that in the front of the book it says ‘Thank you for being my Teacher.‘ I thought the kids could write a letter to the mentor in their live thanking them. 6y

Winner of the 1963 Newbery Medal, A Wrinkle in Time (SF) is about a strange visitor who comes to the Murry house and embarks on a dangerous yet extraordinary adventure with the characters. This book would be a great project to do an author study (AS) about and once the class has read the book then they could watch the movie.

LeahH EL: #36- ask numerous questions which require higher level thinking responses. - I remember reading this book in 6th grade and it was hard to understand at times. By asking questions and discussing the content, it would help EL students understand. 6y

This book by Lois Lowry is about German troops trying to “relocate” all Jews of Denmark. Readers get to look at this HF book through the eyes of Annemarie Johansen. Winning the Newbery medal, this book is great for independent reading (IR) for the students to do on their own time and once back in class the class can discuss.

Madeline | Ludwig Bemelmans

Bemelmans was awarded the Caldecott Medal for his classic story of Madeline. This poetry (P) book talks about Madeline the smallest yet bravest girl of them all. Madeline is rushed to the hospital and the other 11 girls parade her with gifts so she can recover. This book is great for a RA and to have students share a time when they were brave!

Lincoln a Photobiography | Russell Freedman

This Newbery Medal-winning biography captures the warm, appealing and humorous life of one of our presidents, Abraham Lincoln. Nonfiction biography (NF) books are great for students so they can understand the history, but it also captures their attention because the story is about someone! I think this book would be great for a guided reading (GR) so teachers and students can stop and talk about major events in history.

Toot & Puddle | Holly Hobbie

This RF book is about two pigs who are best friends but are interested in different things. One of the pigs travel around the world and send postcards back home so this is a wonderful classroom activity to where the students could write postcards to send to someone. I would do this book as a PR since it talks about best friends!

The Rainbow Fish | Marcus Pfister

This MF talks about a fish with shinny scales and all the other fish want one. The main idea in this book is about sharing and is a great book for a class RA. Students will learn about sharing, collaborating and making friends. Also, this book won the Christopher Award 🏆

This RF book- Caldecott Honor artist and bestseller, David Shannon talks about David whose actions cause him to get into trouble. He manages to come up with many excuses for his mistakes.
RA- because when children make mistakes they need to know how to say sorry and learn from those mistakes.
