The theme for the winter reading challenge at my library this year is Literary Love. I had great fun doing the humor challenge last year & plan on completing the challenge this yr. Although you can technically complete it by reading any 5 books in 2 months, where's the fun in that? I'm not really a fan of love stories, but I do LOVE anti-love & jaded love stories. So I plan on reading 5 books that are anti-romances. First up is this one( CONT)

vivastory where last night I encountered a word in Italo Calvino's delirious story “Blood, Sea“ that I never have before: ingurgitate. I initially thought it might be a neologism, but found out differently after a quick google search. I really enjoyed this Merriam Webster entry on the word:
Most people are familiar with “regurgitate“ as a fancy synonym for “throw up,“ but far fewer know of its rarer antonym “ingurgitate.“ It's a word as likely to turn (CONT

vivastory up in a spelling bee as in a conversation, but it does see occasional use, both literal (as in “ingurgitating red wine“) and figurative (as in “ingurgitating artwork“). “Regurgitate“ and “ingurgitate“ (as well as “gurgitate,“ an even rarer synonym of “ingurgitate,“ and gorge, meaning “to eat greedily) can be ultimately traced back to the Latin word for “whirlpool,“ which is “gurges.“

IndoorDame Can‘t wait to see what else you choose! Love anti-love stories 🙃♥️ 3mo
Megabooks This kind of reminds me of the quote from 10 Things I Hate About You. Something like, “You can be underwhelmed and overwhelmed but can you just be whelmed?” Answer is yes to this as well. Thanks for sharing the cool word, Scott!! 👍🏻 I‘m an anti-love person, too. 3mo
vivastory @IndoorDame Thanks! I'm def looking forward to it 3mo
vivastory @TheBookHippie I have read several Everyman's Library anthologies & love them 3mo
CBee Sounds like a great challenge! I like these types of stories too 😊 3mo
vivastory @Megabooks Lol. Great quote! The only local radio station that I listen to (member supported, commercial free with a great eclectic playlist) does an anti-valentine's day segment every year. It's pretty great. 3mo
CatLass007 Ingurgitate is an excellent new word! Sister Augustine, our grade school principal, told students and entire classes that we made her want to regurgitate. Which is just one of the many reasons why I am not Catholic. But @vivastory, thank you for sharing this intriguing new word! 3mo
Aimeesue @vivastory @megabooks I went to school with a guy we called "Couth" because he was the epitome of couthness. ? 3mo

I love the pretty #stripes on this little book, even if the cover is a bit cheesy.

It's still TBR, but the collection includes entries from some really wonderful authors: Fitzgerald, Dahl, Atwood, Nabokov, Dorothy Parker, Ali Smith, just to name a few.

batsy Agreed, the back cover pic is fantastic! Book designers should get feedback from Littens 😑 The list of authors is making me want to read this. 7y
saresmoore @batsy I feel like cover feedback should probably be a paid gig. 😁 Yeah, and I made the mistake of looking at all of the Everyman's Pocket books online. They all sound great. 7y
