Bella Poldark
Bella Poldark: A Novel of Cornwall 1818-1820 | Winston Graham
8 posts | 10 read | 6 to read
Bella Poldark is the twelfth and final novel in Winston Graham's sweeping series of Cornwall, Poldark. Cornwall 1818. We continue the tale of Ross and Demelza; of the wayward Valentine Warleggan, whose existence keeps open the old wounds of the feud between Ross and George; of Bella, the Poldark's youngest daughter, whose precocious talent as a singer is encouraged by her old flame, Christopher Havergal, and by a distinguished French conductor, who has more in mind than Bella's music; of Clowance, the Poldark's widowed daughter, who considers remarriage to one of two rival suitors; and of a murderer who stalks the villages of west Cornwall. 'From the very first lines we tingle with the sense that we are in good hands, transported by Graham's atmospheric prose back to 1818 and the treacherous coast of craggy Cornwall' Daily Mail

Today Mullion Cove in Cornwall. #VirtualTour

How was Tuesday? Had a good day, got a number of things done off my to do list. Also sent letter to say struggle we were having to quickly get work packs out to Isolating parents, and straight away got emails from two parents offering to deliver them. I love my school and community, been there almost 14 years but have never wanted to go anywhere else. Just posted this on Twitter!

CBee I am getting ready to go and VOTE 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 3y
TheSpineView Beautiful scenery! What is the big building on the cliff overlooking the sea? Busy today because it is the 1st of the month. At least it is taking my mind off of the elections. 3y
Andrew65 @CBee Good luck 🤞 3y
CocoReads Working 10 hr today. 2 to go but it‘s not been too bad. Sounds like you have some good parents at your school! Good deal! 3y
CBee @Andrew65 we need it! My nerves are just 🤪🤪🤪 3y
IamIamIam I'm glad you've got such a supportive community!! It's nice to find that light when things seem bleak! Election Day in the US and we voted this morning. Whatever will be, will be. 👍🇺🇸 3y
JacqMac Hubby and I had an unplanned hanging out together day at home. Well, we‘re always at home these days, but he‘s usually in the basement office, working. We both needed it. Expecting our new case numbers to be very high today, as our mayor started talking about a new lockdown. It‘s feeling like this will never end. 3y
Lynnsoprano Hard to focus today, sweating out the election. So glad you have so much support. The community at my last school was like that. Some of my students‘ parents have become good friends. 3y
Andrew65 @JacqMac Isn‘t it just! 3y
TrishB Long day trying to plan for rest of semester. It is as @JacqMac says looking like it will ever end! 3y
Andrew65 @TrishB I don‘t think it will, feels like Groundhog Day! 3y
Andrew65 @TheSpineView I think it‘s a National Trust Building. 3y
kezzlou85 @Andrew65 aww what a lovely school you have. I've just been trying to find long sleeved tops for my youngest to wear under her school polo shirt. Been a good day though. Eldest who lacks confidence in herself got a big boost when she learnt she was 2nd in the school for a maths challenge. 3y
tracey38 I spent yesterday in bed with a horrid migraine. This morning I felt better but then a couple hours into work, I started feeling one come on again and spent the rest of the workday feeling sick. Ugh... not a great day. @Andrew65 sounds like you have a wonderful school community and parents! 3y
AprilMae Election day has my stomach in knots. It's a mess 3y
GHABI4ROSES OMG, right @AprilMae ?! In what state are you? 3y
Andrew65 @GHABI4ROSES Never seen such a mess. 😳 3y
AprilMae @GHABI4ROSES Minnesota. 3y

And with this book it is goodbye to the Poldarks. Loved seeing Bella centre stage (yes that phrase had to be used), and the story ended in a suitable spot. Now I can go back to the TV series 😁

After 12 books and 6,481 pages this is me.

This series is ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for me. There are ups and downs and stronger and weaker books, but the strength of the characters, the fascinating historical details, and the descriptions of landscapes will likely make this one of my favourite series of all time.

BookaholicNatty Ohhhh I love this so much!!! 😂😂😂😂😂 6y
rabbitprincess I'm diving in! 6y
Libby1 @BookaholicNatty and @rabbitprincess - I imagine you both know how this feels! @rabbitprincess - enjoy! 💕 6y

@bookisglee

I plan to finish the twelfth and final book of the Poldark series in August. After about 3 years of reading and thousands of pages I‘ll be sad to say farewell to these beloved characters.

emmaturi Are you watching the TV series too? 6y
Libby1 @emmaturi - I am. I live in the UK, so series 4 just finished last Sunday. Have you watched it? 6y
emmaturi Yes I have watched most but missed the 3 or 4 last epsiodies due to being on holiday! 6y
Libby1 @emmaturi - you‘re in for a treat! 😃 6y

Anyone else reading the Poldark series? Just finished The Stranger From The Sea, book 8 (I think) of 12. I‘m still enjoying the series, but finding I loved the focus on Ross and Demelza more than these later stories about their children. Also found that larger portions of this later book took place away from Cornwall (London and the Continent), and I was less interested. Will continue tho. Love the BBC series too.

rabbitprincess Aw, Valentine! I am on The Black Moon and have only just met him 😊 7y
LauraAndTaraAndBooks @rabbitprincess I don't think you really get to know him til now, in the last book. I'm so jealous, you have so much to look forward to! Wish I'd taken these books more slowly, but I just can't get enough!! Are you enjoying them? 7y
rabbitprincess @LauraAndTaraAndBooks Very much! I've been reading two a year to stay up to date with the new TV adaptation. They are indeed easy to devour! 7y
