This book is just blowing me away from the depth of the writing and everyday life it so vividly describes. So glad I started my #24in48 #readathon with Pachinko 📘

Pickpick

The best memoir I've read in a long time. This is not an easy read, but the brutal honesty is incredible. I have many takeaways from this book, but perhaps the biggest one is a greater understanding of the dynamics within our culture that perpetuate an additude that it is ok to look down on those who are not the 'standard size'. As someone who is "curvy" and has been that way most of my life, this book was a much needed read.

This book has some cutting points by Roxane Gay about fat and our culture and while it's mostly a serious read, I couldn't help but laugh out loud at this comment about yogurt commercials. Does anyone else out there feel this way about those ridiculous ads??

"You've been reading this all night - pay attention to me now!" This book has totally sucked me in - I'm so glad I finally picked this up! It has a diverse cast of characters and tackles topics like privilege, sexuality, and race. Loving the humor, writing, and the characters so far ? #catsoflitsy #eveningreading #sotired #butmustkeepreading

New shiny hardcovers are lovely in their own right, but I also love checking out books that are cracked and battered from being thumbed through and enjoyed so many times 💜 I've heard so much about this series so I'm looking forward to getting started!

Rachellynnwright I feel the same way, I like buying crinkly used books that have clearly been loved! 7y
Rachellynnwright P.s. I just started this book today (used crinkly copy of course) and I'm really liking it so far! Hope you do too! 7y

It didn't take me very long to realize this writing style just wasn't for me. I had heard this was one of those books where you're either going to be ok with the obnoxious characters or you're not and I guess I fall into the latter category. I haven't had a DNF happen during a #24in48 #readathon before, so this was disappointing on a couple of levels.

ReviewsandReadathons I didn't love this one either. I did read the other 2 books though and everyone seemed slightly less obnoxious. But I totally get not finishing! 7y

Pickpick

First book finished for #24in48 #readathon! While I wasn't expecting the dark turns the story took, I overall really enjoyed this book. Like with all of Tillie Walden's work, the art is consistently astonishing. I also would really like to have a giant cat named Nemo... please?? 😻

First book for the #24in48 #readathon ? I'm getting a late start, but Arya was super helpful when I was putting my outfit together. This shirt is from #outofprintclothing (Arya is covering the part that says "Life is sweet"). #catsoflitsy

I had the privilege to see the wonderful Jessamyn Stanley interviewed tonight at the Boston Public Library. Her book is empowering for a curvy woman like myself and hearing her speak in person about body image and self worth almost brought me to tears several times. I'm in a much more powerful and positive mood now 💪

Pickpick

She was a thief, a runaway, a pirate, a magician.
She was fierce, and powerful, and terrifying.
She was still a mystery.
And he loved her.

It's always bittersweet to end a series with characters you've come to know and love. This was a dark and action-packed ending to some of the best fantasy writing I've had the pleasure to read recently.

My #comics from the library for #riotgrams day #10. I read Giant Days yesterday during a snow day ❄️ and I absolutely loved it. Also, if you've been curious about #squirrelgirl, but haven't read it, read it!! One of the funniest comics out there, filled with lots of great squirrel puns 🐹

Marktwainbutstupid #squirrelgirl is so great...the opening pages of her twitter account make me laugh every time! 7y

The Phantom Tollbooth | Norton Juster
post image

My #favoritevillian for #riotgrams (still catching up 😸) is the Terrible Trivium, who is symbolic of all the time we spend wasting on meaningless tasks, including those we put upon ourselves to complete. Anybody else out there a fan of The Phantom Tollbooth or have another favorite villain from the book?

BookFreakOut 🙋 Here here! He's a good one, the Doldrums too. Waaay closer to real life than I'd care to admit, though. The Whether Man was always my favorite character purely for his silliness. 😊 7y

#libraryhaul for the day!! I've already read the first two volumes of The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, but it's been awhile so I'm going to do a quick re-read of those and then start the third volume. I'm looking for some lighter and/or shorter reads for this month, since this year is not off to a great start - anybody have any recommendations along those lines?? 😺 #comics #ya

Mehso-so

3 out of 5 stars. Read this if you'd like a dark and perverted take on Alice in Wonderland (if you're wondering where the perversion comes in, just wait until you read what the Caterpillar and the Walrus do to women). I found the dialogue to be stilted at times and the main characters somewhat one-dimensional, but there are a lot of twists and suspense to keep you moving along. This is my third book finished for the #24in48 #readathon!!
