Horrifyingly beautiful. Read with terrifying or perhaps perfect timing given today's political climate. I was riveted the entire way through this novel and I know I'll be thinking about it for months to come.

First month back into #BOTM! I'm a sucker for a story in a high school setting, and this novel rang all of the teenage drama bells. It read just like a season of Degrassi: deliciously episodic, but with beautiful prose. I certainly did not have such a dramatic high school existence, but I took the teenagers and teachers in this story at hyperbolic value.

Freebie from BOTM! Satisfying single-sitting read, but I'm glad I didn't purchase it. I do give Flynn props for always having good pacing, even on a short story like this one.

Charmed, charmed, charmed. I loved Valente's prose and wit and the varying cast of characters. Hoping to pick up more of the series soon while it's fresh. Favorite line: "I suppose I shouldn't expect any better from a Midwesterner. They teach you such frightful things about the world."

A beautiful story, the heart of it about the friendship between an 11 year old boy and a 104 year old woman. I really liked the format and dynamic of this story. I would recommend it to anyone, but especially fans of A Man Called Ove, as I found the central friendships in the story to be similar. The audio took me a little to get into, but I'm glad I stuck around - by the end I was loving the narrating style.

So many feels. I related to almost every one of these stories. I have a big case of the warm fuzzies currently.

As formulaic and predictable in format as Picoult's works are, I found her novel on racism to be well researched and one of her best. There were implausible portions, but overall I enjoyed this one (even if I still can't handle her "let's end this section in a snappy "ooooh"-inducing sentence" tendencies). The narrators of the audio version were also superb.

I'm becoming a big Marissa Meyer fan. I love how she twists a familiar tale into something fascinating and fresh. The backstory of the Queen of Hearts was lovely and heart-wrenching and enthralling. Much darker than the Lunar Chronicles, but still so good. Really fun YA!

I felt like the twists and turns were too many, and the story ended up way too messy. I will give it some points for starting off solidly; it helped me get out of an audiobook slump. However, all said, i found the characters altogether too unlikeable and the flow was uneven and garbled.

I've always liked Anna Kendrick, and this book made me love her more. Completely relatable and hilarious. Loved the audio version - although, I always listen to audiobooks at 1.25x, this one I definitely had to slow down to normal speed. :)

Plus, this quote: "In third grade, my fashion hero was Claudia from The Baby Sitters Club". So with you, Anna.

Very interesting memoir - Bryan Cranston is an extremely focused and hard-working actor and I found this book fascinating. Well worth the audio version too.

On the fence with this one, but the stories I loved ended up outweighing the stories I didn't.

I'm not a reader of poetry typically, in fact I usually dread it. But this collection was absolutely lovely and left me in tears. I'm so glad I took the recommendations and gave it a chance.

I didn't grow up with an emotional attachment to the film version, and as a result never had the urge to read the book. But I read it on my husband's request, and I'm glad I did. Although I did grow tiresome of the "quest followed by another quest followed by another quest etc" format, and it felt too long, I overall enjoyed the book within a book. It made so many lovely relatable references to why we love stories and how they become part of us.

I think the less known going into this book the better. Definitely gripping and a total page-turner.

I don't know how to describe this book. I do know that upon finishing I immediately flipped back to the beginning and wanted to start right over at different angles. It was quite the reading experience.

I'm rounding up for her relatable, frank discussions of gun control and also her relationship with her father, who has multiple sclerosis. As my dad also battled MS, I saw a lot I could sympathize with. Overall, a readable book with some real shining moments, accompanied by a fair amount of content that fell a little flat.

Short story collections are often tough sells for me. But this one was absolutely wonderful - dark, devastating, beautiful and all-too-close to the possible realities of our future. Fans of Black Mirror should definitely read this book, as should everyone else!

An absolutely beautiful debut novel about two half-sisters living in Ghana in the 1700s, and encompassing almost 300 years of the lives of their descendants. Inspiring, devastating and gorgeous story about the passage and evolution of time, which I am fascinated with. Would recommend this novel to anyone who feels a connection to the past, both known and unknown.

Also, the narrator for the audiobook was truly excellent.

Listened on audio, where the novel is read by the author. Although he does a great job, it often makes the multiple voices of the various narrators difficult to keep straight. Overall, really liked this look into grief and family dynamics leading up to and after tragedy.

A nice slow-burn of a sci-fi novel with a coming-of-age spin. Found it reminiscent of the Lovely Bones.

Listened to the audio version start to finish in one day. Narrated wonderfully by Alexie himself.
