4.5 stars. I really enjoyed this one. An interesting take on what can happen when people try to “play God” with other‘s lives. Tons of twists and turns, none of which I predicted.

Of note, towards the beginning there is a brutal murder that is described in (way too much) detail for my liking. I‘m one of those people that enjoys watching “murder shows” on ID but this scene actually made my stomach turn. 🤢

I would rate this 3.75 stars. Not my typical genre but given the hype I figured I would give it a try. My favorite part was the second epilogue. Given my lengthy TBR pile, I‘m not sure I feel compelled to read the rest of the series but I‘ll probably end up watching it on Netflix.

This was a quick and easy suspense/thriller. The audiobook was well done with two narrators. I thought I had figured out the plot but the twists kept coming. I‘d give it 3.75 stars overall, rounded up to 4.

This one started out pretty strong and had the potential to be a 4-5 star read but it fell a bit short for me. I found the protagonist to be rather irritating. I also couldn‘t help but be annoyed at the number of times “murmured” was used in the dialogue. It seems every spoken word was “murmured.” Maybe I‘m being nitpicky but it‘s a pet peeve of mine when a word is used too frequently in a book, and in this case it was used probably 100 times.

ZoeJane620 @TheAromaofBooks this was my #doublespin for March!! 3y
TheAromaofBooks Oh I feel you on the repeated word thing! I can't remember what book it was that I read where the author's favorite word was “panted“ - like everyone was out of breath the entire book; everything they said was, “Oh, John,“ she panted and I COULD NOT DEAL 😂 3y
ZoeJane620 Haha I probably wouldn‘t have been able to finish that one! Panted is def worse than murmured 🤣🤣 3y

Pretending to Dance: A Novel | Diane Chamberlain

Diane Chamberlain is such a masterful storyteller! This is the 4th book of hers that I‘ve read and I will definitely make it a point to read her other 20 novels.

Prairiegirl_reading I had never even heard of her until I read the dream daughter last year. I will definitely be reading more. I had no idea there are over 20!!! How had I never heard of her??? 3y
ZoeJane620 @Prairiegirl_reading I have no idea how she isn‘t more widely known! The Dream Daughter was so great! I just listened to that one last month. I feel like all of her books that I‘ve read so far would make great movies... 3y

Forget You Know Me | Jessica Strawser

I really wanted to like this one because I enjoyed Jessica Strawser‘s first two novels, but this book really fell short for me. The very beginning was good and it had the potential to be a great domestic suspense/thriller but it fizzled out quickly and the plot was rather dull after the first couple chapters.

I‘m still very much looking forward to reading her new release though!

I wish I had known before starting this book that it is based on real people and events. Eliza Lucas Pinckney was a very influential woman in the 18th century. If it were purely historical fiction I would lower my rating because the plot seems a bit far fetched at times and a bit dull at others. But seeing as how it is fact-based, I have a higher appreciation for it, even if it felt somewhat like required reading for school. This was my #BookSpin!

I never give one star ratings but this book just had absolutely no redeeming qualities. Besides the Christian propaganda which I didn‘t know I was getting, the plot was convoluted and outlandish, and I found the characters to be unlikable. This was the first book in a series of three and I have no desire whatsoever to continue on with book #2.

I really enjoyed this book! I didn‘t know what it was about before I started it and I‘m glad, because I may not have picked it had I known it was about time travel. But I‘m happy to say I loved it! To me, the telltale sign of a good book is when I find myself thinking about the characters long after I‘ve finished reading and this is definitely one of those books. Beautifully written. My favorite Diane Chamberlain novel so far.

Holy moly, what did I just read?! Talk about dark, twisted suspense. This was so different than Colleen Hoover‘s usual light romance reads. So different she had to get a different publisher for this book lol. Overall I enjoyed it but there were some parts that, as a mother made my stomach turn. Decent book. This author dedicated her entire adult life to researching this serial rapist/killer so I give her a lot of credit for her thorough research but the book was put together after the author‘s death and it‘s kind of all over the place and a bit difficult to follow.

This was such a fun book! I listened to the audiobook and each character was read by a different actor so it felt like listening to a play. It really felt more like a documentary of a real band than fiction.

I had some major issues with this book. The plot was at times difficult to follow because it spanned four generations of two families with two mysterious adoptions thrown in. My biggest issue was the dialogue. Most of the time it felt very unnatural and forced. It didn‘t flow like normal conversation. I won‘t be inclined to read anything else from this author.

This was my #BookSpin for November but I finished it early December. @TheAromaofBooks

This was a quick, enjoyable read. I appreciated how the author wrapped up all the loose ends. I hate reading a suspenseful/thriller-type book and being able to poke holes in the plot. Worth the read and I will check out Julie Clark‘s other books. 👍🏻

This book took a long time for me to get into. In part because I kept having holds become available on Libby. I gotta say, though, I expected a bit more from a book with this much hype surrounding it. Although the plot picked up eventually, it was a never a “can‘t put it down” book for me and I‘m still not sure how I feel about the ending. That being said, parts of it were beautifully written so I‘ll be generous and give it 4 stars.

rachaich This is my book of the year so far! I adored it. 😍😍😍 3y
Cathythoughts I really liked it too. ... but I went in with no expectations... too much hype??? 3y

MyNamesParadise I‘ve read A Man Called Ove and Long Bright River. It took me a while to get into Ove but the ending made it worth it. I listened to Long Bright River and really enjoyed the journey of the characters. 3y
ZoeJane620 @MyNamesParadise I agree, it took forever to get into Ove but I stuck it out because of all the rave reviews. It certainly wasn‘t a favorite but I did enjoy the ending. And I wish I had listened to Long Bright River instead of reading it because the format she chose was tough to get used to. She didn‘t use quotes for the dialogue. If you haven‘t read American Dirt I would highly recommend that one! (edited) 3y
rachaich American Dirt was a good and timely read. I loved Ove, and all the others in that setting. 3y

Ok, I am BRAND NEW to Litsy and this is my first crack at #bookspin. @TheAromaofBooks I‘m excited to try this out! Is the #doublespin just the second number you pick? Oh and next month I‘ll know that my photo has to be square! 🤦🏼‍♀️

I'm planning to have a giveaway at the end of the year & every BookSpin & DoubleSpin book read counts as an entry!! So feel free to read either or both!! Some folks also choose to join the Bingo part as well because they want to read more books from their list, so it's pretty much however many books you feel like trying to check off!!! 3y
