This is one of the most intense and tragic books I‘ve ever read! I can‘t believe more people aren‘t talking about this one! One of my favorites of the year for sure.

Fairy Tale | Stephen King

Pickpick

1st half was 4 ⭐️, 2nd half was 3 for me. I know to expect to saunter with King on a somewhat aimless path. I know it‘s more about the journey than destination. But this destination should have been travelled in a trilogy. An ode to fables & fairy tales & would entertain fans of the epic journey trope, but y‘all. It was looong. The imagery was fantastical, the main character very likeable, & the dog precious. Loved the old curmudgeon too. ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Read this one this evening for my book club and was pleasantly surprised! Not normally a fantasy reader but this one hooked me from the beginning! Very easy fantasy read! Limited world building and plot heavy. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #anenchantmentofravens

3.5 cringy stars. Won‘t soon forget this one about this crazy, uber rich, privileged, wacko fictional family. #bookstagram #bookreview #whenwewerebrightandbeautiful

“There are birds, and then there are other birds. Maybe they don‘t sing. Maybe they don‘t fly. Maybe they don‘t fit in. I don‘t know about you, but I‘d much rather be an other bird than the same old thing.”

The Villa: A Novel | Rachel Hawkins

Netgalley Review. At first, I had trouble settling into it. Near 40% mark though, I couldn‘t put it down. The story of 2 women, one, Mari in the 70s & the other Emily current day both visit the same Italian Villa & juicy chaos ensues. Mari struggles w/ a love/hate relationship with her sister and Emily goes through the same with her friend Chess. I despised Chess btw. Really wanted to punch her the whole book. Overall, feminist fiction done well.

Small Game | Blair Braverman

SMALL GAME is a story about survival and community. I love a good survival story and for the most part I enjoyed this novel. I thought there was going to be more to it though. It almost felt like there was a build up to something that never quite happened. The ending felt rushed and non resolute but overall it was a fast paced enjoyable read and I would read more from the author! Thanks netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this novel!

Do you remember the TV show in the early 2000s with Jennifer Garner called ALIAS? Did you love it? Then read ALIAS EMMA as soon as you can get your hands on it! Fast paced and thrilling, Ava Glass races you through the streets of London in this spy adventure you won‘t be able to put down! This book comes out on August 2nd. Put it on your TBR list! #netgalley #netgalleyreview #aliasemma ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

I want to like Riley Sagers books way more than I actually ever do. This is my third and I‘m still finding myself disappointed. 2.5 underwhelming stars. ⭐️⭐️💫

Reading a good book with a cup of coffee, while sitting on the back porch, listening to the thunderstorm and watching the Braves game. Life is good.

What I liked: Classic horror movie references, pacing, and setting
What didn‘t work for me: Lack of character development, rushed backstory, and the twist, if it could be called that, didn‘t really grab me.
This reminds me of Riley Sagers books, over the top, fast paced and satirical.
Just 2.5 stars for me. I liked it okay but not sure if I would recommend. I would read more from this author though!
*Received a netgalley of this title.

The Lies I Tell | Julie Clark

“A good story can be seductive. Most people are inclined to believe one rather than examine the evidence piling up in front of them. But what they don‘t know is that no one is a reliable narrator. Reliable narrators don‘t exist.”

I love a good cat and mouse story, and a lovable con artist. The Lies I Tell delivers! I flew through this plot driven novel in 2 sittings & could hardly put it down! One of my most entertaining reads of the year.

The Secret Wife | Emily Shiner

This book seemed to start in the middle of the story and seemed to finish before the story was over. I felt like the author made a mistake by having both characters speak in first person. One unreliable narrator is good, but two just makes you feel like everyone in the novel is crazy. I wouldn‘t recommend this one to my friends who love a good thriller. It just seemed to crawl at the beginning and then rush to an unsatisfactory ending. #netgalley

“The thing I find profoundly hopeful when I‘m feeling despair is to imagine people playing, to believe that no matter how bad the world gets, there will always be players.”
If you‘re a gamer, or not. If you‘re a gen-x-er or not. If you love a good story. If you want to pick up a piece of art, READ IT. I adored Sadie and Sam and was rooting for them both. This reminded me of The Gold Finch, but more concise and to me, just better. #netgalley

I borrowed his book, “All Over But the Shoutin‘” from a friend years ago and loved it. The stories in this one have made me laugh out loud and get a little sentimental so far. I have quoted many lines to my husband as I‘m reading. Rick Bragg ranks up there pretty close to Pat Conroy in my book, and that‘s saying a lot. ❤️
