The Great Alone | Kristin Hannah

I seem to be alone on this, but i thought this was awful. What could‘ve been a powerful recount of a war vet battling PTSD and how it impacts a family and an entire town was over shadowed by dramatic and cringe-worthy dialogue and a predictable plot. I found Leni to be extremely flat and lacking much development by the way that she seemed to have learned nothing by the end of the book. 0/5 for me.

TrishB I didn‘t even finish it! 4y
Kmiloslavich I finished it only because it was so highly rated that i figured it had to get better at some point 🙄 4y

After watching the movie this weekend, i decided to read the book it was based upon and i found my favorite read of 2019 so far. The book is choppy, straight to the point, and matter of fact which matches the movie‘s cinematography. This is one of those that sticks with you for days and has you pouring over online articles finding out more. I had recently spent some time in Bangkok last month and love learning more about the country (bad and good)

Book H: i was so excited for this book and subsequently so let down. I was drawn in by the beginning and then i realized that there is such a thing as too many/crazy plot twists. The whole second half was outrageous and the ending was extremely rushed.

Book G: #AtoZReadingChallenge

I for some reason loved this book and i say for some reason because it wasn‘t particularly exciting or thrilling, but i was hooked. The characters were so interesting and you never knew what was going to happen. Also how pretty is the cover??

This was good! It was super entertaining all the way through but definitely could‘ve been shorter and had less jumping around time periods. I love that it was set in different European cities and Kate was a badass!

D: do you ever have a book in your TBR for so long, but keep avoiding it for some reason? This was that book for me and I‘m so glad i finally read it! It is a little predictable, but it had me hooked from the start!

B: #AtoZchallege it‘s absolutely freezing in Chicago and I‘d still rather be here than on an island with this unlucky bunch. This book was so original and suspenseful i finished it in one sitting. Any recommendations for books starting with a C??

A: First book of my #AtoZchallenge ! I forgot to take a book picture while in Thailand so here‘s a picture of my reading location 😍! Anonymous girl was a decent follow up to one of my favorites The Wife Between Us. While it was a little predictable, it made for a super entertaining beach read over the New Year!

Traveling back from Asia and picked this book up on the way home. I highly recommend if you are at all interested in knowing more about Singaporean culture. It is a unique perspective into the Singaporean psyche from the viewpoint of esteemed citizens.

Perfect spooky supernaturalish thriller to start out Halloween season. At times this was a bit confusing, but it was refreshing to read something that challenged me. Also, my couch has all the Blackheath vibes.

Once again Iain Reid did not disappoint. I‘m Thinking of Ending Things is one of my favorite books so this had a lot to live up to. This book is so creepy and twisty and dark. Perfect book to kick off the fall.

BarbaraBB Oh I must read it too then. I loved 6y

I was sooo let down by this book. Final Girls was one of my favorite books of the year and this did not compare. It was so slow and the plot was so unrealistic. I felt like the ending could‘ve been great, but it was so rushed due to the slowness of the first 2/3.

Just finished April‘s BOTM and i enjoyed it! It was definitely not as exciting or well-written as YOU, but it definitely held its own. I was also disappointed in the way the feminist antidotes were hurriedly crammed in at the end, but all in all it was a decent BOTM.

I was so surprised by this book! I usually stick to he mystery/thriller types and this has been sitting on my shelf since i got it in last years BOTM. I absolutely loved this book and finished it in a day. I read it a little smugly because i thought i had it all figured out but wow was I wrong!

“It‘s not your fault that you carried your demons awkwardly in that big Prada bag.”

This book was AMAZING. It‘s creepy and haunting and beautiful and soooo American Psycho. Also, the literary references will make all of your inner bookies smile.

Also, call me crazy, but Joe just might be my favorite stalker ever.

JoScho Right? Like not sure why I like him. I certainly shouldn‘t but I do 🤷🏼‍♀️ are you going to read Hidden Bodies next? 6y
Kmiloslavich Yes!! I‘m trying to listen to the audiobook because i heard good things about the narrator. Have you read? @JoScho 6y
JoScho @Kmiloslavich I did read it and enjoyed but not quite as much as You. 6y

I was so disappointed in this book! Was i the only one who was expecting it to be more violent or creepy??? The beginning was SO good and raised my expectations so high, while the ending subsequently let me down.

I loved this thriller! Definitely top three BOTMs for me. I️m for sure having a serious case of genre fatigue though, with all narrators in thrillers being unreliable women with a penchant for alcohol. Any psychological thriller recommendations that can offer something different?

I haven‘t been able to read much because work has been so busy, but i finally finished Liv Constantine‘s Gone Girl-esque novel! While the book was clever and entertaining, i found it extremely predictable and far-reaching. I️t wouldn‘t be in my top 10 of the year, but it‘s definitely still worth a read!

I usually steer clear of YA books (because apparently my 22 y.o. self is far too mature to delve into the minds of teenagers) but this was definitely one of my favorite books of the year! It‘s Breakfast Club meets PLL meets Thirteen Reasons Why in a original take on the whodunnit story. I️ read this in one sitting and couldn‘t put it down! ✔️ must read of 2017.
