#two4tuesday

Even though the tagged book was written in 2018 and set in 2045, it so nailed the 1980s for me. I loved it. And it‘s been much longer since I‘ve read Eleanor and Park, but I remember really feeling my generation‘s vibes.

Thanks for the tag @TheSpineView ! 😁

I really like that Richard Powers focuses on the sciences in his books, but the science here is computer programming/graphic design, and it is just not for me. I really tried but it isn‘t working and I‘m out.

JenP That‘s too bad. I normally love his books but haven‘t read this one 11mo

This had an interesting story, but there were also aspects that that just didn‘t work well for me. I thought the information about virtual reality and how it could be used with hospital patients was great, and the development of the friendship between Addie & Mateo was wonderful. The backstory with Addie‘s mom and opiate addiction was originally very vague and wasn‘t resolved in a way that felt logical to me.

It's been quite a while since I've read the first part, but I remembered enough to read this volume. It's a typical Lukianenko, so my rating only shows that my reading taste has changed. I'm not the same I used to be, so the way females are shown, or rather not shown, here bothered me a lot. But that's only me. A few years ago I would've enjoyed it quite a lot.

TheSpineView Great job for finishing even though it was lackluster. 2y

My next roll in the #BookishMonopoly led me to the field “Second book in a series“, which is absolutely perfect! I got this book for Christmas and wanted to read it anyway. I couldn't find an English translation but it's the second part of Lukianenkos Mirrorverse series. There are two books and one short story, but the latter hasn't been translated to German or English 😥

@AkashaVampie

AkashaVampie Awesome. Glad ur roll worked out for u. Hope u enjoy ur read! 2y

I have a lot of favorites in this genre, but here are three:

1. Ready Player One by Ernest Cline (Fun story: Andrew and I met his father-in-law at a beer festival in Philadelphia)
2. The Martian by Andy Wier
3. Coraline by Neil Gaiman

Can I cheat? I also want to mention:
4. The House with a Clock in Its Walls by John Bellairs
5. Percy Jackson & The Olympians series

@dabbe #ThreeListThursday #HerosQuest #HeroQuest

dabbe 3 more for the TBR! And you have to start telling some of these stories; you're too good at being intriguing! 🤩 Thanks for sharing. 💚💙💚 2y
lil1inblue Ready Player One is soooooo good! I even got my hubs to do the audiobook of this and he loved it. (He's a graphic novel guy.) 2y
Aimeesue I loved John Bellairs when I was a kid, filling out those Scholastic book order forms 😁 2y

Pickpick

This was a fun video game fantasy adventure story. It was picked for my irl bookclub by my partner, an old favorite of his. Giannine gets stuck in a virtual reality game and must win before time runs out or she'll die in real life. She encounters all kinds of riddles and challenges as her character fulfills her role as the new heir to the kingdom and is constantly getting killed and having to start over. It was silly and enjoyable
