#Aprella #day5 #VirtualInsanity This classic novel by Robert Louis Stevenson is chock full of insanity. And it‘s not just Mr Hyde‘s, Dr Jekyll‘s less civilized half, that holds the king of insanity title either. Dr Jekyll had to have had a few screws loose, playing without a full deck, a few sandwiches short of a picnic, kangaroos loose in his top paddock etc, to even come up with the idea of this experiment, let alone carry it out on himself!

MinDea Oooohh I love those editions! 6y
emilyhaldi Kangaroos loose in his top paddock!! 😆 I might start using that one! 6y
Cinfhen I like the picnic reference @emilyhaldi @Lizpixie 🙌🏻😂 6y
Reviewsbylola I love Word Clouds!! The covers are so soft and I love the endpapers. 6y

#Aprella 💻Thriller where the MC is a data analyst working for a security agency specializing in corporate espionage & threat assessment. Dani's skill is in analyzing trash & random objects for patterns to provide background data. She leaves the office one day to go home & collect objects related to an aborted mission & comes back to a virtual bloodbath with her co-workers dead & assassins in the office. That's what I call #virtualinsanity 😱

emilyhaldi Ha, this sounds 💯 perfect for today‘s prompt!! 👍🏻👍🏻 6y
Reviewsbylola That‘s pretty wild!! 6y

Spook Country | William Gibson

My novel takes place in the near future, which, being written in 2007, is now the past- the trend of 'locative art' would now fall under augmented reality. But in Spook Country, this hot new techno trend that Hollis Henry gets assigned to investigate from the mysterious new cyber magazine Node, becomes the center of a bizarre conspiracy that only I, inventor of cyberpunk, could dream up. It's excellent, if I do say so myself... #virtualinsanity

Mdargusch Sounds crazy! 6y
emilyhaldi I read your blurb on this book, as well as the Litsy blurb, 3x and I‘m still trying to wrap my head around the premise of this one 😆😆 6y

Reviewsbylola Lol I love your pic. 6y
Cinfhen Haha @emilyhaldi same❣️❣️❣️❣️but im still intrigued 6y
Billypar @Cinfhen @emilyhaldi I think I went through about three quarters of the book still not knowing what was really going on, but it was a fun kind of mystery anyway 😁 6y
PeanutButterPie As a Vancouver Lower Mainland denizen I loved having that recognition jolt I sometimes get when I recognize a street, building, bridge or restaurant in a film or tv show. I live reading Gibson because I m a compulsive re reader and I get what‘s happening after that second read. All subsequent reads just get better 6y
Billypar @PeanutButterPie I love that recognition feeling- I don't remember if it happened for any of the NYC scenes. I've only read three from Gibson so far, but I do want to try more- I was thinking Count Zero next since I loved Neuromancer. Would you recommend any in particular? 6y
PeanutButterPie I‘m particularly fond of Virtual Light, Idoru and All Tomorrow‘s Parties as a series. I started with Idoru and back tracked from there. He crafts complex societal structures and weaves each character into complex plots that rereading to see how it was done is as pleasurable each time as that first fresh read. 6y
Billypar @PeanutButterPie Ooh...sounds really fun to dive into- thanks for the recommendation! 6y

What was going on in this dude‘s house, was #virtualinsanity I found this book at a lovely free library in London while visiting @AnnieD but haven‘t had the chance to read it yet. It reminds me of the Cleveland kidnappings from a few years ago, which I found horrifyingly interesting. #aprella

Mdargusch I missed that Free Library. 🤔 Good choice! 6y
Reviewsbylola 😂😂 I don‘t remember seeing this at all. 6y
emilyhaldi Did you sneak this book out without showing us?! I have no recollection. Sounds 💯!!! 6y
Meredith3 @Mdargusch thank you! Hahaha @Reviewsbylola @emilyhaldi I don‘t know how you guys missed it! 6y

#VirtualInsanity

I don‘t quite know why this novel, set in 18th-century London‘s Bethlem Hospital (“Bedlam”), has been sitting unread on my shelf for so long. Has anyone read it?

#Aprella

DeborahSmall I definitely have to get a hold of this 💕 6y
emilyhaldi Um no, but I'm obviously stacking it immediately! 6y

Cinfhen Yes, love the pic and book sounds fascinating 🤓I think u posted this title before because I‘ve already stacked it!!! 6y
Mdargusch No. That‘s new to me. 6y
Reviewsbylola I haven‘t. It sounds good but the GR rating is one of the worst I‘ve ever seen! 2.75. 😖 I vote you as tribute @LeahBergen 😂😂 You read it and then let me, @cinfhen, @emilyhaldi and the rest of the littens if it‘s worth it or not. 6y
emilyhaldi Oof @Reviewsbylola that‘s ALMOST as bad as this book‘s 2.64 rating 😆 6y
Kalalalatja I‘m definitely interested in seeing what you think of it! #stacked 6y
LeahBergen @DeborahSmall I‘ll see if it‘s any good first. 😆 6y
LeahBergen @Cinfhen I seriously thought I HAD posted this before but I couldn‘t find a post. 🤔 6y

It's been a few years since I read this, but it takes place in a future where what is real and what is replicant is indistinguishable. #virtualinsanity #aprella @Mdargusch @Reviewsbylola @emilyhaldi @Cinfhen

Holy calamity it's #virtualinsanity - time to suit up! Bob Arctor/Fred bears witness to the destructive nature of Substance D by posing as an addict.
This vision of a troubled near future is loosely inspired by Philp K Dick's own experiences with drugs.
#aprella @Mdargusch @Reviewsbylola @emilyhaldi @Cinfhen

emilyhaldi Ahhh yes, another author whose drug use influenced his writing. Trippy!! 6y

#VirtualInsanity #Aprella this is slowly breaking my heart. Mental illness can be frightening and definitely isn‘t talked about enough

emilyhaldi And this book doesn't ease up AT ALL. It is an all-consuming read- one of the few books that actually made me feel sick 😰 but so good!! 6y
Cinfhen Same @emilyhaldi I literally needed a mental break from this book....it was emotionally draining me 6y
DeborahSmall @Cinfhen @emilyhaldi I‘ve read 200 pages today and I don‘t want to put it down. I‘ll definitely need something light when I finish 6y

The employees at the Elysian Society live in some kind of #virtualinsanity where they can channel dead souls through their own bodies by swallowing “lotus” pills and wearing a belonging of the dead. People come into the Society looking to reconnect with loved ones, but sometimes speaking to the dead through someone else can begin to blur the lines of reality... and sometimes drive people insane.
#aprella
