AllDebooks Did anyone else think this chapter went from 0-60? Ruth was newly pregnant and dumped, and then she has a baby boy and a new lurking pervert! I'm looking at you, Bradshaw. 🤮 I hope we really start to see her character develop now she's a mother. 🤞 10mo

KAO I did like that in the last part of this chapter, Ruth finally looks back on Bellingham and becomes aware of his “selfish, worldly nature, unnoticed at the time” and recognized in his speeches “a low standard, of impatient self-indulgence, of no acknowledgment of things spiritual and heavenly.” I was hoping that a spine was born—but then came self-reproach for “judging the absent father.” Oy! 10mo

Clare-Dragonfly Why did she do what Danny said?! Obviously terrible idea! Also obviously terrible: Maxim yelling at her to change and of course never telling her even the slightest clue as to why everyone is so upset. I just hope Frank or Beatrice will explain in the next chapter. 1y

Roary47 Correct me if I‘m wrong. Could she not fire Ms D? Am I correct in understanding that she wore Rebecca‘s dress? I bet she looked pretty, but man they kept telling her to dress as Alice and she just wanted to dress up and feel special. Based on her background I‘m sure this was the first time she could feel pretty in a dress, and Max just burst that bubble. What an emotional hit. 😞 1y

ElizaMarie Ugh!!! As soon as I read Mrs D being “nice” and offering suggestions, I assumed there was something wrong. So the whole rest of the chapter I had such anxiety (felt like watching an A24 film😬). I was just hoping to be wrong!!!! But Mrs D = 😈 1y
