A Year Down Yonder | Richard Peck

Okay all, I live "down yonder". Peck grew up in decatur and while his books never mention the exact place they are set it, all the surrounding towns are listed in his books somewhere. #readjanuary #setinmycity

kspenmoll This author wrote so many engaging books that my son loved reading📚❤ 7y
LibrarianRyan @kspenmoll this is one of the few I haven't read. It's on this year's TBR pile. He is a wonderful author I'm glad your son liked him. 7y

This book is not in the Litsy database and I tagged this other one I found that I've never heard about and also seems to be #Setinmycity Mexicali, Mexico. 13 inspiring stories of successful entrepreneurs from my city. #ReadJanuary

Notafraidofwords Maybe @Litsy can add it. It seems cool! 7y

These were two books #setinmycity I read last year. One takes place in DC itself, which is the city I live just outside of, and the other has a part in Northern VA, where I actually live! #ReadJanuary @RealLifeReading

This book was not only #setinmycity but in fact #setonmystreet! @Kitta and I used to live on Mill Road in Cambridge, which is where Ali Smith also lived for a while, so all the places in this book are very familiar!

The main character also takes a bike ride along a cycle path made up of the human genome- which was designed by, and leads to, the genetics institute where we both used to work!

Cinfhen Very, very cool 😎 7y
TrishB Brilliant 😀 7y
Suzze How cool! The only thing that happended on the street I grew up on in Detroit, was three murders in one week a few months ago. It definitely started a thread of "the good old days" with my childhood friends on Facebook. ?? 7y

Camp Half Blood is said to be set on the east end of Long Island, on the shores of the LI Sound. I like to think Riordan was inspired by Camp Hero in Montauk, which isn't exactly my town, but feels like home. #setinmycity #readjanuary

Los Angeles is a big, spread out city. Most of these prominently feature my 'hood. #setinmycity #readjanuary

Reviewsbylola Helter Skelter yesssssssss! 🙌🏻🙌🏻 7y
LauraJ @Reviewsbylola Great book, but it is kept kinda creepy knowing that The Manson Family murdered a couple of people a few blocks away. 7y
Reviewsbylola Yeah, I can understand that! 7y

Pickpick

I have loved all of Gillian Flyn's novels set in my home state of Missouri. I have yet to read a book set in KC! Dark Places partly takes place in Kansas City, KS....but that's not the same! Ask any born and bred Kansas Citian, KCMO is NOT the same city as KCK!!!
Suspense/mystery is not usually an genre I enjoy, but these are great. Sharp Objects is on my shortlist of TBR.

Daisey I recently finished Sharp Objects, so now I just need to read Dark Places. 7y

Pickpick

My favorite book #setinmycity. Well, only part of it but it was still exciting to hear Tina Fey talk about her time working at the YMCA in Evanston! (Chapter 20) I've been there! My kids took swim lessons there! Now I'm wondering if there's a plaque somewhere that says "Tina Fey was here"... #readJanuary
