I found this receipt tucked into the book I‘m starting today. I was confused by shipping charges from my local indie. I order online from them a lot but I drive the short distance to pick up my order when it‘s ready. Then I checked the date: April 12, 2020. It must have been one of the first orders I placed during lockdown once they were allowed to have one or two employees at a time working to keep their business afloat.

I fell behind on this series. I wish I hadn‘t, but this was the perfect book to break a slump. I love Harris‘s writing style, and it‘s great to be back in her version of Regency England with Sebastian and friends. The ending felt a bit rushed and too neat, but I can overlook that in favor of the joy I get from reading the rest. Too dark to be considered a cozy, but not so graphic as to be unbearably traumatizing. TW in comments.

DGRachel There‘s brief mention of rape and child sexual abuse, in addition to the murders/mutilations. It‘s not graphic, but if it‘s something you are really sensitive to, it does kind of come out of nowhere and could be triggering. 3d
robinb My thoughts on this series exactly. 😊 I just purchased the latest a few days ago and am looking forward to reading it. 3d
DGRachel @robinb I knew I was behind but I didn‘t realize just how far behind. 😭 I don‘t know what happened as this used to be one of the very few series I read the second the books came out. 3d
robinb @DGRachel same here! I fell behind by about 3-4 books and then had a St. Cyr marathon. 😄 3d

I might have been on a tiny little murder spree these past weeks, thanks to #EasterCrime. @Leniverse

My latest adventure took me to Regency London where Sebastian St. Cyr was on the hunt for the person who murdered a bishop. A case that revealed secrets that had been buried for decades.

#SeriesLove2024 @TheSpineView @Andrew65

TheSpineView As long as the murder spree is just fiction it works. You know it is a good week when you don't have to hide a body.🤣🤣🤣 2w

Eighteenth in the Sebastian St. Cyr historical mystery series finds Sebastian (on the eve of Napoleon‘s second wave of forces) drawn into the murder investigation of a major with a long list of enemies…his mistress, his wife, and their governess, a fellow officer and a list of Napoleon‘s spies that he is transporting to the Regent. This one also adds in the intriguing side interests of old English folklore and the occult.
Lots going on 🔻

robinb in this one, turns and twists, and I enjoyed every moment. Harris is a pro at her historical research and at continuing to develop her characters who have never become static or boring during this enduring series. Her books are always auto-buys for me. 4.5/5 #BookSpin (edited) 1mo

Another good book in this excellent series, however I don‘t think this was as good as some other books in the series. There seemed too many variables and suspects at play, and the author seemed to keep her cards close to her chest. But this is still an excellent series and I look forward to reading the next one as events in the series took an interesting twist.

I received this book long time ago in a book subscription box, page habit which is not longer working. I didn‘t know this is book 13 in a series. But I will like to read book 1 What Ángels Fear because it sounds like a good series

London, September 1812. After a long night spent dealing with the tragic death of a former military comrade, a heart-sick Sebastian learns of a new calamity: Russell Yates, the dashing, one-time privateer who married Sebastian‘s former lover Kat Boleyn a year ago, has been found standing over the corpse of notorious London diamond merchant

EadieB Benjamin Eisler. Yates insists he is innocent, but he will surely hang unless Sebastian can unmask the real killer.
This was an excellent book in the series of Sebastian St. Cyr. I really did enjoy this book but it was a bit convoluted with a lot of stuff going on besides the murder. It was a bit slow in parts and had an occult happening that could have been cut from the book without missing it at all.

EadieB A lot of different suspects and the murderer escaped me until the very end. Harris could have given us more clues in the book so we would have been given a chance to guess the murderer. But I will give her 4 stars for this book and move on to the next St. Cyr book. 6mo

I‘m racing through this series! 3rd book in 2 weeks! Historical mysteries are one of my favorite genre. So glad I finally started this one. I love the characters more and more as the books progress. I‘ll be jumping ahead to book 8 to join @Andrew65 on Librarything for a group read of the book. Join us if you are interested! Andrew creates wonderful questions and the discussions are lively, fun and informative.

Finally, finally, finally getting to this series.
I promised myself I would not start a new one until I finished one of the 32 other series I am currently reading.
Fail! But this was worth it. A great first book. Love Sebastian! Love the Regency Britain historical setting! Appreciate a Magistrate (police officer) that is neither a buffoon nor an antagonistic pain in the …. Lots of great characters! Looking forward to more. #serieslove2023
