Sebastian St. Cyr investigates the mysterious life and death of a nobleman accused of murder in this enthralling new historical mystery from the USA Today bestselling author of Why Kill the Innocent.... It's June 1814, and the royal families of Austria, Russia, and the German states have gathered in London at the Prince Regent's invitation to celebrate the defeat of Napolon and the restoration of monarchical control throughout Europe. But the festive atmosphere is marred one warm summer evening by the brutal murder of a disgraced British nobleman long thought dead. Eighteen years before, Nicholas Hayes, the third son of the late Earl of Seaford, was accused of killing a beautiful young French migr and transported to Botany Bay for life. Even before his conviction, Hayes had been disowned by his father. Few in London were surprised when they heard the ne'er-do-well had died in New South Wales in 1799. But those reports were obviously wrong. Recently Hayes returned to London with a mysterious young boy in tow--a child who vanishes shortly after Nicholas's body is discovered. Sebastian St. Cyr, Viscount Devlin, is drawn into the investigation by his valet, Jules Calhoun. With Calhoun's help, Sebastian begins to piece together the shattered life of the late Earl's ill-fated youngest son. Why did Nicholas risk his life and freedom by returning to England? And why did he bring the now-missing young boy with him? Several nervous Londoners had reason to fear that Nicholas Hayes had returned to kill them. One of them might have decided to kill him first.

The fast-paced mystery and the political elements are present in this fifteenth installation of the Sebastian St Cyr. It is lacking on the character development. While not one of my favorites in this series, it is still head and shoulders above others in the genre.

I love this series. How do I know this? Finishing the newest paperback release in about 4 hours. That‘s how I know 😊 I strongly recommend the Sebastian St. Cyr series ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Just realized I‘m two days behind on my #12BooksOf2020 posts. My fourth 5⭐️ read was 15th (😳) in a beloved historical mystery series. Absorbing and intense.

#day4

DGRachel I‘m still two behind on this series. 😭😭 3y
robinb @DGRachel Girlfriend, you need to catch up. 😂😂😂 The next one is coming in April. 😊 3y
Andrew65 Great series. @DGRachel @robinb Very difficult to get in U.K. Libraries don‘t have them and usually have to buy the books. 3y

robinb @Andrew65 That‘s a real shame!! Most of them I‘ve borrowed from my local library. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 3y
Andrew65 @robinb You‘d think a high quality series set in England would be available in England! 3y
robinb @Andrew65 Exactly!! 🤣🤣🤣 3y
Andrew65 @robinb A few authors I struggle to get hold of over here and often Historical Mysteries. Victoria Thompson and Sherry Thompson are two others and also Rhys Bowen. 3y
robinb @Andrew65 😔😔😔 Did you mean Sherry Thomas? I love her Lady Sherlock mysteries. So much so that I‘ve been watching for sales to purchase them (as I do with my favorite series‘). I think I‘ve only read the first book in Thompson‘s Gaslight series. I think I wasn‘t too impressed. Maybe I should give it another try? What do you recommend from Bowen? 3y
Andrew65 @robinb Yes I did mean Thomas. Brain freeze! I‘ve only listened to the first three gaslight books but did enjoy them. Might be different in audio. Only tried the Molly Malone series so far (first 4) by Rhys Bowen, all in audiobook format. They are good but breed breaks between them, only finished the fourth today. 3y
robinb @Andrew65 Hmmm, I‘ll have to check into Molly Malone and maybe give Gaslight another chance. 👍 3y
DGRachel @robinb 😭😭😭 (I mean, I‘m glad the series is still going strong, but soooo many books and not enough hours in the day or days in the week...) 3y
robinb @DGRachel I know exactly what you mean! There are several series that I keep meaning to get back to and several new authors to me who I‘ve loved and want to get to their backstories...but WHEN??! 😔😔😔🤷🏻‍♀️ 3y
Andrew65 @robinb @DGRachel Not enough time to read. 3y

A man thought long-dead is found murdered in London, resurrecting a decades old scandal that had rocked the city. Sebastian St. Cyr is called upon to peel back fact from fiction and in doing so uncovers a conspiracy stretching to the highest points of society. Book 15 in this series is full of twists and turns but it didn't feel as adventurous as the earlier ones. I miss a bit of that roguish outcast that was so core to the earliest entries.

This is one of my favorite series and the latest installment does not disappoint. This is #15, and I‘m still as invested in these characters and their storylines as ever. Can‘t wait for the next one!

1814 London 15th book in series but can be read as standalone. Sebastian St Cyr & his wife, Hero, are asked to solve the murder of Nicholas Hayes who was accused of murdering a French woman 15 years earlier. I learned lots of well-researched history about the East India Co and their opium smuggling & Napoleon‘s defeat. Unique characters & plot make for a book that held my attention all the way through. Thanks NetGalley and publisher. Recommended.

robinb Are you a fan of the series? It's one of my favorites! 💜 4y
EadieB @robinb Yes, we do group reads on LibraryThing. We have read 4 or 5 of them. Great series! 4y

EadieB @robinb Me too! I was a bit skeptical to read the 15th book but it didn't seem to matter. 4y
robinb @EadieB No, and I‘m amazed that she still keeps it fresh and interesting. 👍 4y

So ❤️ this series!! Another wonderful storyline with lots of rich historical detail and 4 possible villains. Harris has created a diverse cast of interesting, compelling, and flawed characters that you root for, cry with and feel invested in. This particular story involves a heartbreaking miscarriage of justice with elements of revenge, greed and corruption. Sebastian and crew sort it all out to end with a bit of hope and happiness. 5/5⭐️ Out 4/7

DGRachel Ugh! I‘m now two behind, if you count this one! 😢 4y
robinb @DGRachel I know how you feel! I think I‘m two behind on the Veronica Speedwell series. 😔 4y

DGRachel Part of the problem is that I‘ve been buying them on Kindle and lately I have not been able to read on any sort of ereader or tablet. I think I need to just grab last year‘s release and this one (when it publishes) in print. 4y
robinb @DGRachel Most of mine are on Kindle, but there are a few of my favorite series (Lady Darby, St. Cyr, Veronica Speedwell) that I‘ve also started buying in physical copies as well. But with this one I‘ll have to clear out some bookcase space as it‘s at 15 and counting! 😳😂🤷🏻‍♀️ 4y
DGRachel Exactly! Which is why I haven‘t started grabbing them in print as if I buy one, I must buy them all. 😂 But i want to read them and if my eyes can only handle print, who am I to deny them? 4y
robinb @DGRachel don‘t deny them...the “eyes” have it!! 😂🤣😂🤣🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ 4y

So normally I‘d try to spread out two of my favorite mystery series‘ newest...just so I can savor them. BUT both series have their newest coming out on the same date (4/7), so...I have to get them both read and reviewed with a deadline. 😱😔🤦🏻‍♀️
So it‘s back-to-back exciting anticipation for me...OH YEAH!!! 🤣🤣🤣🥳🤯

Sebastian St. Cyr...I‘m coming at you! ❤️
