My thanks to @TieDyeDude for posting about this memoir earlier this week and to my library for carrying it and displaying it atop the YA Graphic Novel section. Kobabe‘s vulnerability in sharing eir story, eir pain, eir journey will help another (young) person/many (young) people understand that they are not alone; they deserve to live their life as who they are. #representationmatters

I am a 44-year-old woman who seldom sees her culture accurately represented in YA. This #NovelInVerse proves that #RepresentationMatters #OwnVoices ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A young Indian boy is fascinated by his mom's bindi and wants to wear one himself. His mom helps him understand the significance of a bindi and instead of belittling him for wanting to have one (bindis are worn only by women), she supports his interest. This picture book is a delight. I liked learning about bindis through these pages and seeing what they meant to this little kid and his mom. #Picturebook #RepresentationMatters #Hindu

The representation in this book is so amazing I teared up!! I've followed Tyler on Instagram for a long time and she has always made a point to be inclusive in her art. I ordered 2 copies, one for myself and one for my niece! I could stare at the pages for hours just trying to catch all the representative details! Go buy this book! #representationmatters #pridemonth

This story was perfect. Absolutely. Loved every second, and it ended far too soon. I want to read it again very very soon 🤍 There‘s magic, romance, quirky characters, an ocean village, tons of plant chat, diversity (ok the bar is kinda low on that one but nonetheless)
