This was an incredible book. Fern details at length her personal experience with late diagnosed autism and her narration is incredible. I barely put it down.

I like this idea from @Karisimo to share more #MiddleGrade reads!
Button Pusher is a memoir driven graphic novel about growing up with ADHD. It provided a personal perspective that has helped me be even more understanding of some of my students.
I read The Miscalculations of Lightning Girl a while ago but remember loving it. Lucy is a math genius with OCD tendencies attending middle school for the first time.

I'm not familiar with FB's stand-up (and haven't a clue what Taskmaster is). This was yet another of my autism memoirs. Maybe I didn't get the joke but this struck me as unrelentingly bleak, and frequently alarming. It is important to share the experience of non-posh ND women, and kudos to her for being so open on the subject of meltdowns. Wish I could say I loved it but, ironically, it left me feeling overwhelmed (and not in a good way). 😩
Understanding, accepting, and advocating for our many differences is what brings hope to humanity. Different does not equal deficient; limitations don‘t equal liability; and boundaries don‘t have to translate to burdens.
The ministry of presence is about showing up, giving support, sharing the burden, and, when necessary, staying silent.
Hope is the antibiotic for grief.
All we have is the here and now.
After reviewing this yesterday evening, I thought about it a bit more and decided to share these panels. The story gives some clear insight into what it can feel like for the kid or teen with ADHD, to which I feel several of my students could relate. Then, I connected personally with and loved the cultural references included while also wondering how many of them my students would get.

This is a graphic novel memoir of the author‘s experiences from the time of his ADHD diagnosis at age 8 through his high school graduation. It seems to be set mostly in the late 1980s into the 1990s and focuses quite a bit on counseling and the use of Ritalin. Additionally, it deals with the family‘s struggles. It includes several pages of factual research interspersed through the story.
