The twenties are as frenetic a decade as the teens. You have a voice inside your head repeating “I want, I want, I want,” but you don‘t know what you want or how to get it. You hardly know who you are. You go on instinct. And your instinct mostly pushes you toward adventures you won‘t grasp until you look back on them. Life can only be understood backward, but it must be lived forward, some sage once said.

Who else remembers this book? My teachers liked to have us watch the cartoon too. Every year, lol. And for some reason, my best friend has no memory of it. #publishedinthe1970s #jubilantjuly

mcipher I love this book!!! (edited) 2y
RowReads1 Read it as a kid. Read it to kids as a teacher. 2y
JackOBotts Loved this book! My 3rd grade teacher was Mrs. Nelson, but she never pulled a stunt like this (though I always hoped she would)! 2y

booksandsympathy @JackOBotts That's funny! It's probably a good thing that she didn't feel the need to do something like this though. 2y
booksandsympathy @RowReads1 If I were a teacher, it would definitely be a book I'd read to students. 2y
Chelsibno I loved this book! My first grade teacher read it to us. 2y

The Cat Ate My Gymsuit | Paula Danziger

Day 27 #JubilantJuly #Publishedinthe1970s #90sinJuly #KidsinAmerica Even though the song is from the 90s, I'm combining photo challenges today & offering up what I (a kid in America) was reading with these 6 favorite books of mine that were published in the '70s. I would have been reading these in the mid-to late part of the decade in my preteen/teen years. I adored Paula Danziger, Lois Duncan & Judy Blume books the most.💜📚💜 #multitasking

Cinfhen Awesome 💖🎉🙌🏻#multiplayer 2y
merelybookish WHOA The Cat Ate My Gym Suit!! I forgot about that book. 2y

LeahBergen Aaack! Flashback! ⚡️⚡️⚡️ 2y
RealLifeReading I was a Judy Blume fan but maybe the other writers' books didn't make it to my shores as a kid as I don't recall reading them 2y
Eryn2513 The Cat Ate My Gymsuit!!! I checked this out of my school's library so many times that the librarian gave it to me at the end of 6th grade! Great trip down memory lane, thanks! 😁✨💜 2y
Audrey Me too on those three authors. I also loved 2y
Audrey And remember Norma fox mazer? 2y
Ahenchcliffe All of these! And also Paul Zindel. I loved his stuff. 2y
DebinHawaii @Cinfhen @LeahBergen ⚡️📚⚡️😆 @merelybookish @LauraBeth @Eryn2513 I loved Danziger's books so much--especially The Cat Ate My Gym Suit. I need to find them again and reread them too. 💜📚💜 @RealLifeReading Judy Blume was probably the best seller of the group & most famous. 👍😀 @Audrey @Ahenchcliffe I do remember Norma Fox Mazer & Paul Zindel both--the 70s-80s had some great YA authors! 📚❤️ 2y

Ragtime | E. L. Doctorow
post image

I need to get back into these photo challenges so I'll hop on the end of #jubilantjuly and hopefully manage August! For #publishedinthe1970s my pick is 1975's Ragtime which is a gorgeous sprawling novel set in early 20th century America, this is also a pride of my book collection as it's one of the few first editions I have that dates back to before I was born 🙂

Libby1 You've convinced me! Into Mount TBR it goes. 2y
smccallum @Libby1 I hope you enjoy it 👍 2y
JazzFeathers Never read Doctorow, but l'd be curious too 2y
