Mr Vertigo | Paul Auster

This story was different than the other Auster I have read, mainly because it is not set in/about NYC, but his swing into mystery and magical realism was familiar. Young Walt and the Master grew on me and I ended up loving them both. Parts of this dragged at times, but overall it was an engaging story about depression-era America and dreams coming to an end.

A Sunday with absolutely no plans means I can make some good headway on a fat, new book. Happy reading today, friends!

BooksForEmpathy We are reading this for book club in September! Can't wait to see how you like it. 7y

Beautiful, frustrating, and wonderful. Not bad for something I happened to stumble upon in the New Arrivals section in the library.

Sunday morning coffee and a new book. None of my in-process books were keeping my attention today.

I have been slowly working my way through The Faraway Nearby. I love this idea, especially as it applies to the creative process.

Everyone should read this. It took me an hour. Go! Read!

"Be kind to our language. Avoid pronouncing the phrases everyone else does. Think up your own way of speaking, even if only to convey that thing you think everyone is saying. Make an effort to separate yourself from the internet. Read books."

Faibka One of my favorite quotes of many from this book 7y

"Life is political, not because the world cares about how you feel, but because the world reacts to what you do. The minor choices we make are themselves a kind of vote, making it more or less likely that free and fair elections will be held in the future. In the politics of the everyday, our words and gestures, or their absence, count very much."

Just finished the second Ferrante book as a long anticipated thunderstorm moved in. I definitely need to give my emotions a break. Browsing my Kindle for a change of pace - looking for light fluffy for the rest of the evening.

I started this second book in the series a couple months ago, but got sidetracked as I so often do. I picked it up again last night and am now completely hooked. I'm halfway through and need to stop reading and get to work, but I would much rather be on a hot Italian beach eating coconut and talking to boys. I know one of the points of these books is the intricacies of female friendships, but Lina would have driven me away YEARS ago!

BooksForEmpathy Yes. This was my favorite reading experience. The entire collection is just so beautiful and piercing and raw. Enjoy!!! 7y
Ahenchcliffe @BooksForEmpathy It's so good. I have the next two books ready so I can keep moving the story right along! 7y

I am not sure what took me so long to read Octavia Butler. The short stories were a great way to get a taste, but I want more. On to the novels!

TheBookAddict I've been meaning to read something by her, since I've heard great things about her books. I think I may have to look for this one at the library soon. 😊 7y
Ahenchcliffe @TheBookAddict I'm just starting to get into some sci-fi and am thrilled to discover some strong female voices in that genre. I hope you enjoy her stories as much as I did! 7y
Maike Welcome to Litsy 😉 I just read my first novel by her and it was sooooo good. Maybe I should check out her stories as well. If you're into time travel you could try 7y
Ahenchcliffe @Maike Thank you! I've been seeing Kindred pop up on my feed a bit here and there, so I think that's a sign I should add it to my stack. I have only read Connie Willis time travel, but I loved that. 7y
