Megabooks @Cinfhen one of these is coming to you! I owe you a thank you!! 😘😘 4y
Cinfhen Awww, so sweet xxx but I just saw today that the US is halting all mail service to Israel 🙀 4y

AmyG @cinfhen WHY? 4y
Cinfhen They said it was Covid19 related @AmyG I don‘t really know!!!! It‘s so bizarre especially since Israel is almost back to full reopening 🤷🏼‍♀️ 4y
Meaw_catlady Your box is so organized!! I want to be able to go back to target so I can buy a litsy love organizing box!!! 4y
Eggs Pretty stamps!! 4y
AmyG The Covid excuse makes no sense. That sucks. (edited) 4y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I use my entire bed!!! I want those international stamps!! 4y
Cinfhen Upon further investigation it seems to be related to the lack of flights into certain countries @AmyG @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks there were a lot of countries on the list (beside Israel) who the US has halted service. 4y
AmyG There had to be a valid reason. Still sucks. 4y
UwannaPublishme You‘re so organized! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I love the orchid stamps. 4y
BookNAround @Cinfhen @AmyG @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks And some countries aren‘t accepting mail from outside the country right now so the USPS is saying don‘t try to send there because it‘ll just get sent back. 4y
Megabooks @Cinfhen well, you‘ll definitely get a card when it opens!! @AmyG COVID doesn‘t make any sense to me either! ...reading on. I guess it makes sense if there are very few flights! @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks thanks for the info @BookNAround 👍🏻👍🏻 4y
Megabooks @Meaw_catlady thanks!! Idk where my mom found this, but she‘s determined to organize the table dad and I share! 😂😂 4y
Megabooks @Eggs thanks!! 4y
Megabooks @UwannaPublishme thank you!! 🌸😁 4y
Megabooks @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks they just came out this week. You can order them from the post office and get them delivered!! I waited to re-up on international stamps for these!! 4y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Megabooks I ordered some about a month ago and they took forever to get here!! 4y
Megabooks @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks the pink international stamp was just released to the public this week according to the Usps website when I ordered it, which is why it took so long, probably. 4y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Megabooks the ones I ordered were the older ones 🤷🏼‍♀️ 4y

These are not the books I was planning to get at the library. (And yes, I plan what books I'm going to get. I miss the fun of browsing, but this is a lot faster when going with little kids.) Despite checking the catalog the night before to make sure the ones I wanted were available, they were both checked out when I got there in the morning! So I grabbed these instead. I'm sure I'll enjoy these just as much (still sightly disappointing, though).

RaimeyGallant I order everything into my library. :) 5y
smilingshelves @RaimeyGallant I guess I'll need to start doing that! 😊 5y

I think I started collecting stamps a few years before I got my collecting badge with the Girl Scouts.Just unboxed my first stamp album while sorting things.I give my collection a lot of credit for interest in people, places and things.I looked up stuff I didn‘t know about from curiosity about the image on the stamp. The hobby is dying, at shows , seems most are older than I am.Hey kids wanna put little pieces of paper in an album?

Tamra I did that too and have no idea what happened the collection. 5y
arubabookwoman I collected stamps in college and law school. Purging the house for our move, I came across two boxes containing my collection and had to decide whether to keep or get rid of. I decided to keep. I have visions of getting into it again. 5y
Linear How cool though. Unfortuntaly I never got enough letters for this to be a thing. I do collect lapel pins of places I and people I know have gone. Their all in a hat ^_^ 5y

Leftcoastzen @Linear I love pins!Even back then we didn‘t get enough letters,my mom worked in an office so she would bring stamps home .Even if you traded your duplicates with other collectors, not enough. There used to be hobby stores that sold collector packs.Maybe 500 stamps worldwide in a package or say if you were low on a country they would sell 100 stamps from India,100 stamps from France ,etc. 5y
Leftcoastzen @arubabookwoman I dabble .What I love is checking out postal history at the stamp shows. They set up boards with text and examples of postal history with envelopes (covers) and postcards.Last show there was a person who traced the evolution of the washing machine with postcards , covers, letterheads, from companies in the industry.Topics I‘ve seen, history of mail in a particular county, sea mail, history of the pony express, etc. 5y
Shadowfat Stamps are super neat but I agree that not as many younger people seem into it. We went to a stamp show for my boyfriend's dad and the age range definitely skewed older. 5y

I didn't know the first thing about stamp collecting when I dug into this book. It didn't matter. It was incredibly interesting, and there's very little "fat." It's very well written, and you're given only what you really want to know. It's a fast read, and I definitely recommend. You'll surely lose yourself among the interesting characters who've made it their ultimate goal to own the most valuable stamp in the world.

Lynnsoprano I‘m definitely going to have to read this, but for a very different reason. The summer after I graduated from high school, I worked for Crayola, packing the old big flat boxes of 72 crayons. You were known by the name of one of the 4 crayons you put in each box as it came down the conveyor belt, and I was “magenta.”😄 6y
msford88 @Lynnsoprano Haha. That's a great story. Love it. 6y

A fascinating look at not only this, the "rarest stamp in the world", but at its history, & of the lives of everyone who has owned it. It's a fairly quick read, & it's gotten me interested in stamps again, something I haven't gotten into since I was a little girl. Going through my family's big box of stamps from all over the world, my Dad and I were happily absorbed for hours.
If you like micro histories, non-fiction, & philately this is for you!

Cinfhen Great review! I'm fascinated and can't wait to read this book... 7y
LauraBrook @Cinfhen Thanks! I predict you will enjoy the heck out of it! 7y

Hoping to finish this one up today in between clients. It's good!

Hobbinol This is in my shopping cart right now! I rekindled my interest in stamps a couple years ago and I can't wait to read it! (I confess I even get stamp magazines 🤓) 7y
LauraBrook @Hobbinol I've always found stamps so interesting, and the last couple of years I've been thinking about collecting them. It's funny, but in the book the author mentions how philately seems to be a private, secret hobby, and that people don't really talk about it much. It's been true for me and my family! My parents have a box and album of stamps that I used to look through as a kid. Maybe I could take it tomorrow! What stamp mag? Might subscribe. 7y
Hobbinol I subscribe to the American Philatelist and I love it. Don't let the title fool you-- they have articles about stamps from all over the world. And if you like American stamps (I can't remember where in the world you live--sorry), you must get the USA Philatelic: The Official Source for Stamp Enthusiasts. It has gorgeous pictures of stamps (not so many articles) and it's really a catalog issued regularly by the USPS and it's FREE! 7y

Hobbinol It will help you stay on top of new releases-- I preordered my Flannery O'CONNOR stamps-- I just couldn't wait and I was worried my local PO wouldn't get them. https://about.usps.com/publications/pub9/PUB9_508.htm 7y
Hobbinol Sorry to nerd-yak at ya!🤓🤓🤓 7y
LauraBrook @Hobbinol No worries, this is all excellent info! Yes, I'm in the US (Wisconsin), and I was overwhelmed when I started looking online tonight. 😳Thank you for this, it's really helpful. And a free catalog sounds like just the ticket to get started. Will check out American Philatelist too! 🤘🏼😊🤘🏼 7y

Absolutely riveting! You do not need to be a stamp collector to be sucked into the history of this one-of-a-kind stamp. You'll travel around the world meeting collectors & experts from around the world as a timeline of ownership takes place.

This book will appeal to fans of The Billionaire's Vinegar as well as anyone who has dreamt buying something at a flea market or garage sale and discovering it is a priceless gem.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Cinfhen Sounds really good! 7y
WanderingBookaneer @Cinfhen : It truly is. 7y
Zelma I love weird, slice-of-life, random topic, nonfiction books like this! 7y
