Standing in the Shadows | Peter Robinson

#standingInTheShadows #PeterRobinson #SeriesLove2023 #BookSpinBingo #AwesomeApril

This book goes back & forth between the past & the present. In the past, November 1980, Nick Hornsby is wondering about the death of Alice Poole. Her body has been found in the park and people are wondering if she was murdered by Yorkshire Murderer. In 2019, a skeleton is discovered at an archeological dig near Eastvale, so DCI Alan Banks is called to investigate.

EadieB They ascertain that the body was buried between 2009 and 2016. This was an interesting book that had both murders coming together in the end. There‘s a lot of twists that happen in the book that keeps the plot moving along. If you like police procedurals with two connecting plots from the past to the present then you would love this book. 12mo
EadieB I would like to thank NetGalley and William Morrow for a copy for an honest review. I‘m so sad to report that this may be the last book in the series as Peter Robinson has died recently. 12mo
Pageturner1 i am interested in reading this, but sad author passed. 12mo

Peter Robinson‘s books always mentions a lot of music that DCI Banks listens to as he is a music buff!

Book starts out slow with dark story of drugs, murder, sex trafficking. Not nice subject matters. Gets better middle to end. Cliffhanging ending leaves things unresolved. Interesting characters. Intriguing plot with lots of twists. Many music references as usual. Not my favorite in the series but still a good read. Looking forward to next book. Recommend to those who love mystery thrillers.

Andrew65 I enjoyed it, but key theme wasn‘t an enjoyable theme. 4y
EadieB @Andrew65 I agree! Too dark for me too! 4y
Andrew65 @EadieB Definitely and not enough on the personal side either. I think he needs a relationship with someone. The series seems to have taken a dark turn. 4y

EadieB @Andrew65 I like all the stories from the beginning of the series where the series was more of a police procedural with familiar characters. The last few books have been a bit different and not in a good way. 4y
Andrew65 @EadieB Totally agree! Need to get back to those normal police procedurals. (edited) 4y
Crazeedi @EadieB I have to check where I left off with this series, I know I have several to catch up on 4y
gradcat @EadieB @Andrew65 @Crazeedi I used to love these books. This is yet another author that I just stopped reading for some reason that I now can‘t remember. Great review, Eadie...now I‘m trying to decide if I want to figure out where I stopped in the series and pick up the next book. Maybe I stopped reading them for the reasons you mention here in your comment, Eadie. 🤷🏽‍♀️ (edited) 4y
EadieB @gradcat I think it‘s just the last few that have major plot changes with foreign input. 4y
gradcat @EadieB Thanks for letting me know, Eadie. ♥️ 4y

The stories varied greatly in quality, as they often do in collections of this kind, but they included ones from a couple of authors I especially like: Andrew Pyper and Michael Redhill. I also enjoyed revisiting some of my favourite places in Toronto and would love to read other books in this Noir series from Akashic.

Total so far for the #MrBook1InAMillion #readathon: 7 hours and 5 minutes.

rwmg The series seems to be getting a lot of good attention recently, so I've wishlisted Amsterdam Noir, which LT says is the first 4y
kwmg40 @rwmg I‘d like to read that one too. I‘ve visited Amsterdam a couple of times and really like the city. 4y

Congratulations to @MrBook on his big milestone! I'm planning to join in the fun, with the #MrBook1InAMillion weekend readathon, hosted by #LitsyPartyOfOne and sponsored by #24B4Monday.

These are a few of the books on my current TBR stack that I plan to read, but I'm sure I'll get distracted by others along the way.

@Andrew65, @TheReadingMermaid @jb72

MrBook Thank you for joining in the fun 😁👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🤗! Distractions are so easy, aren‘t they? 😆 4y
Andrew65 Good luck, some great book choices. 😊👍 4y

#bookishspring2017 #day5 #bookwithnameintitle I thought I'd go with an unusual name for this prompt, I'm sure not many littens have ever heard of this book or the name. The name is taken from the Celtic word "caed" meaning battle, Caedmon from the title was an early English poet who lived in the monastery at Whitby, England, which is where this novel is set. I'm having a very Celtic day today.?????
