This ended up on my radar after reading a best audiobooks of 2021 list. I enjoyed listening to this, but I‘m not sure what made it so special that it merited a place on that list. Perhaps if I were better versed in musical canon I‘d see more of the connections made between the songs he listed and the history he brought up, but as someone who isn‘t I was hoping this would be more of a multimedia experience with some of the more important songs 👇🏼

IndoorDame actually included because this listed the names of so many that it would have taken me at least a week to pause and listen to each one, so I had to just appreciate it for what I got out of it as it was. #Nonfiction2022 #ImRockNRoll #PopSugar2022 #AboutABandorMusicalGroup @Riveted_Reader_Melissa 19h

I have never seen any of the shows she has done with regard to Scientology, so I went into this knowing very little about it. Wow is it problematic. It does make me want to know more in the watching a train wreck sort of way. I'm glad she was able to leave, but sad for the friends she lost because of it's principles.

Riveted_Reader_Melissa I read this a few years ago, also went into it completely blind and had the same reaction. How is that not a cult! So good and so eye opening. 2d
Cinfhen It‘s on my TBR!!! After listening to the book Cultish that references Scientology I‘m very interested to hear Leah Remini‘s story (edited) 2d

This about the first American women team expedition to Annapurna mountain. This covers all minor details starting from fund raising till the end of summit. Gender bias, conflicts with the sherphas, both mental & physical challenges of the summit are presented in a honest way. The unpredictability of the nature, mystery surrounding the mountain made it mesmerising. Cont…

Blackink_WhitePaper Author provides us with multiple view point by referring to the journal of fellow team members. writing is slow paced, at times too quick with adrenaline rush, some time thought provoking similar to their summit. In this pandemic time this book took me to Himalaya. 5🌟#nonfiction2022 #aestheticallymatched #adventurous #bookspin #bookspinbingo #travel 2d

Partly this book was what I expected - a confirmation of things I know & a pitch for lifestyle changes I believe in but haven‘t made yet, mixed with interesting new facts & ideas. And partly this book wasn‘t at all what I expected - it was funny! & it made me really nostalgic for the year I spent living on a working ecovillage where we actually produced about a third of our own food. All in all it was a great introduction to Barbara Kingsolver.

TheBookHippie I love this book. 4d
Cinfhen Ahhhh!! That‘s fabulous 💜I tried this one awhile ago but it wasn‘t holding my interest. Maybe I‘ll try again. 3d

I‘ve been reading this collection all month, a section each day, and I love that I got to read the entire collection as one and see all the themes that ran through her life. Clifton‘s style is direct, which makes it easy to connect to on an emotional level, and can also make it gut wrenching depending on the subject, like her poems on sexual abuse by her father that just cut to the quick. #Nonfiction2022 #ImASurvivor @Riveted_Reader_Melissa

I really enjoyed this memoir by Arngrim who played Nellie Olsen on Little House. Although parts of it were uncomfortable, TW: child abuse/rape, she is a strong person. I enjoyed listening to her stories of times on Little House and with various cast members. I admire her work with activism such as AIDS, especially since it was a time of misinformation, and how she managed to endure pure hatred just because she was Nellie.

This was my at work lunch read today. My neighbor had it from the library and finished before it‘s due so I‘m reading it too. (Counting for Unplanned on #nonfiction2022 bingo) I‘m enjoying it so far. She‘s candid but it‘s more about her career than the parts that made headlines when the book was published.

This is the 3rd book in a 3 part series written as a photo elegy to the disappearing animals in East Africa. The images are beautiful and haunting, shot in black and white on medium format film in the early 00s and 2010s. Brant isn‘t just a casual observer of this environment. The intro is filled with photos of elephants that he can tell you the names of, followed by how soon after the photos were taken they were killed by poachers. 👇🏼

IndoorDame For some it was only a single day. Needless to say the intro made me cry. Some of the photos aren‘t easy to look at, but the photography is stunning, and the message is poignant. #Nonfiction2022 #ImASinner #Popsugar2022 #FeaturingAManMadeDisaster 6d

I finished our #SheSaid book and am left with the same conflicted feelings we‘ve all been discussing. This should definitely be classified as as a MG textbook. I liked the combo of vintage photography and colorful line art portraiture. I think the artist did a great job at conveying the personality of a ton of people in minimal space. #Nonfiction2022 #ImLoudOrBoisterous #BBRC yeah baby Art/Photography

It is true, our world is full of wonders and this book highlights a few miracles from the animal and plant world, the author connects them all to her own memories and sensations, but unfortunately, these links sometimes felt very forced and inorganic … otherwise - this is a nice collection of stories that can carry you in your own memory lane.
