Finished thumbprint. Not my favourite read of the month, but decent all the same. The author's humanity and compassion shines through.
I read the French translation, and although it‘s perfectly serviceable, I am thinking that the English translation is probably better at rendering the various language registers.

And as feared from @Jari-chan 's post, keeping characters' names straight took a bit of effort, but I got there in the end...

Dilara Photo of Thun (most of the action takes place in a village near Thun, which is where the police station and jail are) by Yesuitus2001, via Wikimedia Commons 3mo
Jari-chan Great you managed the names at the end 😁 and yes, it's a decent read 😊 3mo
Dilara @Jari-chan It helps that I was forewarned 😁- and to anyone else reading, don't be put off: it's really not a big deal (nowhere as hard as Russian novels, for example). It's just that I realised that I will conflate every 3-syllable name that ends with -er or every nickname that ends with -li and this is a book where you have to remember what comes *before* those endings if you want to keep characters apart 😃 3mo
Jari-chan @Dilara Right, Russian names are a totally different level 😁 I wish I was prepared, but if I'm going to reread it I am 😁 3mo

I am starting this #Swiss classic, which I've only discovered last week, thanks to a random YouTube video... I am not usually a fan of crime fiction, but the novel looked really interesting and worth pursuing. We'll see how I fare with it 😁

Jari-chan I wonder how you're going to like it😁 3mo

⭐️⭐️⭐️
I didn't like this one as much as some of the other CSI books. I enjoyed Warrick and Greg's multiple cases. The rest of the gang's story was less fun.

You can‘t really see it but the dice have little skulls in them! Makes them perfect for #castthedie

I rolled a 0 which can be 10 or 0 so there are 3 possible choices for everyone.

Roll 1 = 1 or 11

Roll 2 = 4

You can read all 3 or 1 or 2, it is entirely up to you! Happy reading!

Roary47 Really cool dice! 😍 6mo
Bklover Thank you @PuddleJumper ❤️❤️ 6mo

Catsandbooks Those dice are so cool! And I got my lucky book, 4! 6mo
julieclair I love those dice! They don‘t happen to be newly acquired, do they? Perhaps just for this event? 😉👻 6mo
willaful @julieclair Shame on you! Puddlejumper would never! 😂 6mo
julieclair @willaful I‘m sure you‘re right! I don‘t know how an idea like that would have gotten into my head. 😉😆 6mo
PuddleJumper @julieclair @willaful I absolutely did not take advantage of a 4 for 3 sale and buy 4 new sets of dice .... 6mo
julieclair @PuddleJumper I‘m sure @willaful joins me in congratulating you on your restraint! 6mo
willaful 👏👏👏 6mo
Read-y_Picker Found it! I remember those gorgeous dice after all though I hadn't taken note of the numbers. Happy reading!

Strider is such a great character. Of course, so many fantasy heroes had been based on him that we may miss how complex and truly unique he is. Yet, I think here is already apparent.

I love the idea of the letter, the fact that Strider confirms his identity without knowing it. And also I like the way he acts even if the plan has gone completely astray. Of course, he's Aragorn! But I stil love it 😁

Commissaries Dupin leads a team investigating drowning deaths on the Glénan islands located off the coast of Brittany. Actually, the setting is one of the most interesting things about this mystery. I don‘t know whether it is the fault of the author or the translator, but the language is pretty stilted, and at times flat out awkward. Also really annoying are the excessive typos, sometimes over three per page: unforgivable in the first US edition!

bnp This review is so spot on! I missed the typos, but everything else she said was my reaction when I read it a few years ago. Anyone else know if the series gets any better? 9mo
CaitlinR @bnp Thank you! It will be interesting to hear about the later books in the series. 9mo

Pickpick

4th in the Insp Devlin series finds the Garda officer struggling to balance work with home life as his daughter starts to want to go out + conflict with his wife follows. As a bunch of dodgy characters from over the border start a campaign to rid communities of drug dealers, bodies start to mount up+an old adversary appears who seems to be involved as well as in devlins home troubles. A great series that captures the N/S tension really well.

Starting my week end with a fun German book.
@julesG did you read this?

julesG Read it ages ago, around its publication date. It's the first in a series. But I've only read this first one. 13mo
catsuit_mango @julesG the first one is only translated in French since last year and the second one is due in march... My German is not good enough anymore to try and read the original version. 13mo
julesG I can relate. My French is good enough for Academic texts about chemistry and maybe medical texts, but give me an actual book with common verbs and dialogues and I'm lost. 13mo
