BIRTHDAY PARTY. | LAURENT. MAUVIGNIER

Thanks to @Cathythoughts for her review, I was reminded to look for this book at the library. At 400+ pages, very small type, long sentences and very few paragraphs, it would seem to be a challenge to get through. Yet I was enthralled even when I wanted Mauvignier to get to the point. The suspense builds throughout as three men invade a household during a birthday celebration. It has a series of terrific character studies that will stay with me.

Cathythoughts Oh I‘m glad you enjoyed it ! I thought it was great 👍🏻❤️ 4mo
Tamra So glad you liked it! 👏🏾 I could not put it down! Highly memorable too; I still periodically think of it. For me, this is a consummate literary thriller. 4mo
Suet624 @Cathythoughts thanks again for so enthusiastically supporting the book. I wouldn‘t have picked it up otherwise. 4mo

I knew from the start I was going to love this , and I did. It‘s dense and brilliant, I also knew I‘d read it faster than any other book I‘ve read for a long time. I was absorbed in the story and the writing quickly carried me on. A literary psychological thriller , set in a hamlet in France , where the four main characters live. It felt real and often familiar to enter the minds of these people. I loved the writing , the book 👌🏻 See comments

Cathythoughts Would anyone recommend another book by this author ❤️? ! 4mo

You have to like the writing style of Edgar Wallace which is very simple without any gloss-overs. I especially like his crime novels because tgey are that dry. This one follows episodically the life of master criminal Arthur Milton who purges the crimes of others by doing the work of Scotland Yard.

February 2025 Book #2 (book 1 in this duology)

I still think my favorite book is Elena Knows but this one was a great story. A thriller involving a triangle relationship. Only 162 pages and it was amazing of how many twists it has. Unlikable characters but so well described. I really like Claudia‘s writing style, how she develops these characters. However, there were some actions in our main character that I found unrealistic or too convenient⬇️

Gissy (Cont.) Don‘t want to say much because this is a short book. 3.8/4 ⭐️4 because I love the writing style 3.8 because of those unrealistic parts

The Ringer | Edgar Wallace
post image

This is the radio drama version of the German parody of The Ringer by Edgar Wallace. The movie made gun of the weird villains Wallace used and was quite funny. For the radio drama they even the sounds of the movie and gave it a voiceover of the main character. I liked it.

Jari-chan I watched the movie several times back then. Hilarious 😂 10mo

Another Claudia Piñeiro, whose backlist I am eager to read. This one is completely different again. An architect is living a very predictable live at the agency where he works an at home with his wife. Three years ago however something happened that returns to him unexpectedly. A fun mystery, wit a surprising and rewarding ending. Not as good as her more recent work but still very readable. Recommended!

Suet624 She‘s written so many and they are all different! Need to find this one. 12mo

The Green Archer | Edgar Wallace

I always like it when local mysteries, superstition or folklore is to commit a murder. Then you get to know interestig facts about the local history and the imspector has to disprove all the theories. That‘s why I liked the story of The Green Archer.

Back to reading a murder mystery - now the third Edgar Wallace. Fortunately, some of the old German movies on replay on TV right now. So I can scrutinize both. 😂
