It was SO surreal to meet some littens for the first time today! I absolutely love how books can bring people from all different backgrounds and walks of life together. I‘m new to this world but I‘m loving every minute of it! Thank you guys so much for the great time!
P.s. we‘re going to be on PBS on the great American read next week!!!

I‘m so excited to delve into this book and hopefully many more by Lovett. I loved hearing his perspective on Alice and wonderlands history, and it was such a joy to meet him!

My haul from the #bookmarksfestival , all signed, and not including gifts for friends. Of course, I'll probably have a permanent Quasimodo hunch from lugging all these books around all day! It was quite a novel 🙄 holiday. And the local gem & mineral show was this weekend too. It always brings out the inner rock hound I was at 8 - 12 years old. I love to intersperse large colorful crystals & minerals with my trove of books. My favorite weekend!

Merethebookgal Great haul! 8y

"Still, as I got older, I began to understand, or at least was better able to appreciate, the profound effect that this tragic family history had exerted on my father-- and later, through him, on me." #bookmarksfestival : photo of author, Simon Goodman

The Pulitzer winner Alan Taylor at #bookmarksfestival . Having used 18th & 19th century letters extensively in his research, he confessed, "Some of my happiest moments are reading other people's mail!" He closed by musing how difficult future historians might find researching this electronic generation without old letters from which to work. "Unless they archive everyone's Facebooks, there might not be a lot to go on." He was completely charming.

Colson Whitehead signing copies at #bookmarksfestival. He said he wanted to play with history to broaden the definition of oppression. He said, "I mixed fact with fiction to get to a larger truth." Very cool.

Books everywhere; Jacqueline Woodson among fans; a wreath for a library door (center of wreath: Keep Calm and Read a Book) #bookmarksfestival

LeahBergen Lucky you! 8y
Smrloomis Did the wreath say below it that no books were harmed in the making of this wreath? Because that looks pretty real 😆 8y
Hobbinol No, it did not @Smrloomis ... Darn book poachers! Now I gotta go count my pages... Thanks!😉 8y

First up: When asked how she became interested in her topic, Susan Southard replied that she was first introduced to Nagasaki on a senior class trip, but it wasn't until 1996 when she met a survivor on a speaking tour of the US that she became completely absorbed. Her fluency in Japanese allowed her to partake in a deep, intimate discussion that she felt committed to pursue. #bookmarksfestival

BookishMarginalia That's really interesting -- thanks for sharing! (And I'm stacking too 👍🏼) 8y
