I discovered Phoebe and her unicorn 🦄 this year, and of all the books this is my favorite - the first story, the previous volumes have been based on individual stripes.

These two are my picks for the best sequels I read this year. The first in the series (The Thief) was a good setup, and I enjoyed it. But the next two, pictured above, blew me away with how GOOD they were. #allthebooksof2017 #bestsequelyouread

#bestsequelyouread

I read some good sequels in 2017!

The best could be the Dark Tower sequels, or either of the Passage sequels. Both of those series are just epic and perfect and provided me with so much entertainment this year.

No one asked, but I can say with confidence that the After sequels were most definitely the worst...of course, that didn‘t stop me hate reading them all, which was also epic and entertaining. 😂

Ashley_Nicoletto Both of these series are incredible. Love Justin Cronin's The Passage so much. 6y
RadicalReader @sprainedbrain be sure to check out: The Program, The Treatment, The Remedy, The Epidemic, The Adjustment by Suzanne Young 6y
GatheringBooks i am looking forward to reading the entire dark tower series soonest. i only have two out of the seven books missing (i think). :) 6y
vivastory I think The Passage will be my next horror novel 6y
sprainedbrain @vivastory if you don‘t mind long, drawn out stories, I think you would like it. 6y

Winter: A Novel | Ali Smith

#AllTheBooksOf2017 #bestsequelyouread

I'm not sure if Winter really is a "sequel" in the strictest sense, but I'm counting it!

It took me longer to warm to Winter (haha) but once I did I was again in awe of Ali Smith's skill. There's more verbal acrobatics on display and less compelling characters than in Autumn, hence the colder tone.

For me the wordplay is delightful and unlike anything else out there. Now the long wait for Spring...

LeahBergen I have been meaning to buy Autumn for ages! I know I‘m going to love them. 👍🏻 6y
HardcoverHearts I *just* returned from a book club I am in where we are reading the Man Booker Shortlist and were specifically discussing Autumn! There was so much to talk about. 6y
Marchpane @LeahBergen you should! They're very 'clever clogs' books (I think Winter even includes the phrase 'clever clogs' 😆) 6y

Marchpane @HardcoverHearts that would have made for a fascinating discussion! I can see myself rereading these as there's so much to unpack. 6y
ClairesReads Sooooo keen to read this 6y
Ms_T Very nice review! I‘m reading all the Man Booker shortlisted books this month and Autumn is next in line 😃 6y

kspenmoll Nice photo! 6y
DivineDiana Is it necessary to read the first one to enjoy this? 6y
merelybookish @kspenmoll Thanks! ☺️ 6y
merelybookish @DivineDiana No, I think they can work as standalones. I think reading the first helps give more background maybe. But these are not plot driven stories. Much more about interactions, conversations. 6y
DivineDiana Thank you! Stacked! 6y

The Familiar, Volume 5: Redwood | Mark Z. Danielewski
post image

I actually read a lot of great sequels this year, but the vast majority were rereads...and were Harry Potter, which is obviously fantastic, so I‘m going to exclude rereads for today to make this decision easier. 😂 So, I‘m going to say the best sequel I read this year was The Familiar volume 5: Redwood. I was so excited to read this one, and thankfully, it did not disappoint.
