Pickpick

It was a true tale of the human spirit and the ability to grow and develop, even in the most adverse conditions. I felt like I related to this book on a very personal level, and would not recommend it for somebody who doesn't appreciated subtlety or who has never experienced a traumatic event such as loss or poverty. Very well written!! #comingofage #atreegrowsinbrooklyn #bettysmith #turnofthecentury #summerreading #bettysmith #americanclassic

Currently reading, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith. I find there are so many passages I highlight and contemplate. This one struck me especially, while I was doing a bit of early morning reading, today. #atreegrowsinbrooklyn #treegrowsinbrooklyn #bettysmith #quotes #currentlyreading #quote

thebooksatchel I want to read this book someday 7y
catebutler @thebooksatchel You need to! It is such a powerful book. The themes discussed, the writing. It is truly one of those books that stays with you. I'm about half way through, and have had a hard time putting it down. 7y
HotCocoaReads It's a favorite of mine for sure! Beautiful quote! 7y

Francie Nolan is my favorite literary character of all time. I first read A Tree Grows in Brooklyn when I was 12 and it has remained my favorite book since then. I can't even guess how many times I have read it. No author I have ever read can capture the raw beauty, heartbreak, pain, love and sorrow that is life the way Betty Smith has
